I like your signature, pretty much the golden rule of English composition.
You think that is bad, I worked for an airline a few years ago. The pilots often referred to getting gas before they took off. The planes they were flying didn't use gasoline. They used jet fuel which is kerosene with additives added for use in jet engines.
It always bugged me for them to say that, but I did understand what they meant and it was just terminology. They knew they weren't using gasoline.
I don't much care if it goes down the road.
I had an engineer friend who always referred to it as bang water.

And the pronunciation! When I moved to the west coast from Philadelphia, we went back and forth about how I pronounced it like "gaz" and everyone here pronounced it more like "gaaaaaas."

Well, everyone there is just wrong!
This country alone has many dialects of the English language. New York City, Boston, Phili, the south east, bikers, red necks, etc..... We are a very diverse nation. Then you have groups that have their entire lingo; photographers for one, musicians, different sports. etc...
