No Gizzy - It wasn't doctored. I shot this as a JPEG and the only software I had came with a REALLY cheap HP point and shoot camera.

I think I'll take a close-up picture of a coin being tossed in the air .... to determine the winner of this contest.

TraceyG - Chicago isn't my home town (I'm an Army brat) but it's my all time favorite town. We're at the time of year when I'm sure you're glad to be living south.

Welcome to Ugly Hedgehog's very first Photography Contest. This will be a community run Bi-Monthly contest, open to all members of Ugly Hedgehog.

The rules will be relatively simple.
1. Entry to have been taken in the last month unless otherwise specified by the contest host (please do not go thru your achieves).
2. Theme will be picked by the Contest Host.
3. Contest will run for 2 weeks, after which the Contest Host will pick the winner.
4. You may enter up to 3 photos per contest.
5. The entry must be your own work.
6. Entries to be uploaded directly by entrants to the Contest Thread.
7. Contest Host will be determined by the previous Contest.
8. New rules may be added as the Bi-Monthly Contest grows and morphs.

I do hope that the Contest Hosts will provide feedback as to why they picked the entry that they did, but please remember this is for fun. I have volunteered to manage the contest overall, that does not mean I will judge entries (unless I am the Contest Host that week), or sway judging.

So with that, here is the first challenge:
Theme: Your City/Neighborhood
Due: October 30, 2011
Winner will be selected by: November 4th

Please post your entries in this thread for consideration.
Good Luck and get there and shot something!

I've seen quite a few Chicago Bean photos, but never one quite like that one. It's totally unique. Breathtaking. Are those the natural colors your camera saw, or has it been doctored?

I hope I'm successful posting this. If you see the comment and no picture it's because I couldn't figure it out! :)

I love the 'Bean' (Cloud Gate) in Chicago. I took this photo when I first started taking pictures. I didn't own a tripod so I put my camera on top of my camera bag.

I know the weather is the pits, and I haven't lived there for 28yrs, yet I still miss it. I hope you don't mind but I would like to steal your pic and send it to my family. With your permission of course.

It is a GREAT city!

I'm not pushing my luck beyond 2 photos - I'll traumatize myself!

This was taken on the western shore of Lake Michigan at Fort Sheridan Beach just north of Chicago. About 10 minutes after I took this photo the sky opened up and it poured!

Just looked on the page and it doesn't look as sharp as it actually is. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Mahma,

That's what I thought, too. And the photos supposed to be of your city or neighborhood, right?

I really like this a lot ... evocative ... if you are in the photo, did you use a tripod and timer?

TraceyG (Hometown Girl) Thanks so much and yes, please feel free to send to your family. Since this is my first time posting, I'm not sure if I set things up right. Let me know if I need to do something.

Annabelle, you would have been rolling on the beach laughing if you had seen me trying to do this. I'm too embarassed to tell you how many tries it took!

I had the camera on a tripod and was trying out my new wireless remote. Half the time I couldn't tell if the thing was working. I got a whole lot of pictures of myself checking to see if the bloody light was blinking! I had to go home and take a nap after this excursion!

Gizzy - just remembered. The reason the colors look the way they do is because I had the camera set on the wrong white balance. Go figure!

I've tried that so many times and I have NEVER gotten a decent picture. I am impressed and I don't care if you tried 1000 times ... you kept trying until you succeeded in taking a great picture the hard way! Wonderful picture and great story.
