Big D,
Olympus, had the digital market all to itself in the early 90s all the way until they gave up Olympus Fashion Week, which is now Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Also known as NY Fashion Week. Photographers loved Olympus, they cleaned everyones camera, supplied transportation to and from the off site venues. Gave us free massages plus a working area that was fantastic. They made wonderful cameras and lenses, now Canon and Nikon have taken over. The stuff they made still works and works well. Why change if the things still produce quality photos.

Everyone starts to thinking now and then. I looked objectively at my Olympus stuff and thought about trading them in on a Nikon 3Gs or two. I had my reasons to think about it such as a higher ISO and faster Motor Drive speed all of which I actually use almost every day. In the end I decide that the lens advantages of the Olympus system was worth sticking with them. I have probably $20K in lenses and $8K in bodies so for me to change would hardly be on a whim. I love my Oly's so I won't be trading them away any time soon.

I own Canon (Rebel, 40D and 5D Mark ii) and my brother owns Nikon. Which is better....It's kind of like beauty. It is in the eye of the beholder. The trick is to know your equipment in what it can and can not do. If you are buying a new camera and are not sure what to get...do your reasearch and go to a photo store (a real one not Best Buy) and try the diffrent cameras. The feel and weight as well as what the camera will do will help you decide.

I agree with everyone saying it is not the camera.
However what you need to keep in kind is that once you choose a certain brand whether Canon or Nikon, you will end up buyinmg lenses and flash guns etc. that work on that line and the cost to switch from Canon to Nikon or vice versa becomes exhorbitant. For exampel, some of the high end lenses cost more than the camera body (Canon lens 70 to 200 cost me more than the Canon 5D camera body) and you normally upgrade your camera and keep the lenses.

I'd say his work speaks for itself. Whatever camera he was using, he certainly wasn't a good representative of what it can or can't do compared to your D90. That's the kind of person that when they give advice you should immediately do the opposite!

By the way, I know people who worked and saved feverishly for months to buy a D90 - their ultimate goal. It's a dandy camera well worth whatever you paid for it and you can change to a different Nikon body later and use its lenses.

As the old saying goes, sc*ew him and the mule that pulled the beet wagon he came into town on...

I use nikon and I have a D90 and that guy don't have a clue of what he is talking about . I have lots of friends that shoot canon and wish they use Nikon because of the 3D matrix metering system . Tell that guy i'll show him what Nikon can do

What an arrogant, pompous you-know-what that guy was. He was very rude and out of line. Who asked him, anyway. You should have told him he's the one who needs a new camera because his camera is taking big blurry pictures. ha (just kidding)

I'm not married to Canon, but since I have the lenses I have, which are good ones, and they work with Canon, for now, I'm sticking with this line.
If I were changing out to better glass (but I have top of the line right now), then I'd look at several other manufacturers before making my purchase. Who knows; I could buy Canon again. Not sure.

I'm glad that we have confident photographers that can tolerate some of the nimrods that think they're giving you good advise.

What really gets me is how they can think they're not insulting a person.

I wonder if anyone buys his 'big blurry pictures'. I wish I could have seen what they looked like.

I know I would NEVER just walk up to someone and insult them like this knucklehead did to the OP of this thread. I wonder if they get punched in the nose a lot???

Your camera is a good camera. It seems, for some reason that "man" had a strong need to feed his ego. Learn about shutter speed and the exposure triangle and I bet you will see a significant improvement in your photos. :)

You know, I shoot a lot of sports, and frequently there are other photographers there. Sometimes, I'll see someone using a P&S or low-end DSLR by one of the popular manufacturers. Although what I have is likely better than what they're using, I feel more fulfillment talking about techniques and experiences. Occasionally, I am asked newbie questions, which makes me feel good when I can answer and help them out.
Sometimes, I actually learn things. For instance, I was photographing a junior hockey game and at one game, there was a parent visiting that was shooting in the area where I also shoot. He was using a Fuji DSLR. I'd used Fuji film in the past, but really knew nothing about their cameras. Great film, but not sure about the DSLR.
The guy explained to me that for portrait photography, there was "nothing better". And he convinced me as such. Basically, the Fuji is manufactured by Nikon. The camera is the same as Nikon in every way, except for the sensor. Fuji has their own sensor which essentially takes two exposures for every shot. So it's a built-in HDR of sorts; allowing for beautiful tonal range in photos.
The camera wasn't all that great for sports, as he had less than half the frame rate I had in burst mode, but I was convinced that the Fujifilm camera was a top-notch piece of photographic technology.

So why insult a guy by suggesting that "mine's bigger than your's"? Why not just talk about enjoying photography.

Don't you think it often amounts to about the same thing when you're the guy with all the experience unless you hold back which is sometimes hard to do especially when you encounter a "mine's bigger than your's" guy when his is a mirage. I mean, I don't have that problem but it would seem it would be that way with someone with all the experience you have. (I've read a lot of your posts.) Of course, it's easier to hold back than to hide your gear in the middle of a shoot. You know, with me, no matter what edge I might think I might have, I ordinarily try to downplay issues especially when out in public. We're getting more and more folks who apparently do not see any merit in my philosophy. It has always been my observation that modest superiority takes the wind out of sails quicker than anything.

pick 2 or 3 subjects, take a bunch of shots, useing every trick and tip you know.pick the ones you like and print them full-size.if you are satisfied with them, then tell that guy to pi_s up a rope, and enjoy the rest of your picture taking life. BTW i am committed to the sony brand myself not that it matters.i respect others choices.
