I have been asked to take nudes of a 26 year old friend. These are only nudes. No sex activities or intent. I don't want to buy a printer for this. Prefer to send them to a professional lab. Any suggestions? Of course, quality is paramount but pricing, discretion and image security are important.

Thanks.

I'd look on Google for a decent B&W printer. Unless these are going to blown up lifesize, you should be able to find something for a reasonable price. On the other hand, do you want to spend money to print pictures for a one-time thing? I don't mean a strictly B&W printer, just one that does a good job with B&W.

As for sending them away, as others have said, they immediately become public. Members have posted that Walmart refused to process pictures because they thought they were "professional," and the guy was copying them.

Purely cos ol' SS has a morbid fascination with my views I can only speak for the UK printers who will accept anything that does not violate the pornography laws ie bestiality or child type porn. If the printer finds that type of image he simply calls the police.
Re privacy the average print shop sees dozens of these a day and will find them not of interest generally and why take a chance on being taken to court for unlawful sharing what is to him a quite normal image.
Its only the type of folks who frequent the nude forum here on the Hog that get a strange kick out of ogling tits and butts. If SS or his cronies from pervs corner offer to print for you, walk away. Oh that also applies if they offer to babysit your kids or grand kids as well.

I would check with the photo lab before sending them in and I definitely would NOT use a local (CVS, Walmart/Sam's Club (though Walmart/Sam's Clube "theoretically" has corporate rules forbidding photo lab employees from saving, sharing, or otherwise commenting on images that are legal but suggestive or nude and violation will get the lab attendant fired), Kmart or any other local retailer. I would check for a local camera store that does in-house processing or AdoramaPix, Possibly B&H (can't remember if they do it or not) and other national labs. If the photos are of nudes and not pornographic in nature, you should be fine but again, you need to be sure that the processor is doing quality work. I have used Adorama Pix, New York Camera (which is in Southampton PA (a suburb of Philly)), and a couple of others for processing and have gotten good results. However, only a couple of my photos would be considered semi-nudes (they were of a young mother nursing her infant) and I didn't have any problems. I would check BEFORE I submitted any photos for processing though. Also, there is a person on here that is a representative of Adorama and she may be able to help you.

Thank you for the many responses. Hoping to receive more but you guys/gals have helped me consider my path.

Yes, it's a she. Young (soon 27 y.o.) but comfortable in her life and her skin. She hasn't told me why and I don't intend to ask. She's very near a 10 and may just want to archive her youthful good looks. She's a friend of about five years. Trust established.

The photos will be very tasteful. I have shot nudes in the past but not in a long time and not in this small community. I worked for a company that had it's own lab. The manager would work with me. For both our sakes, I need to be discrete. The photos will be only "R" rated but here, many know many. This is to remain private.

Tempe Imaging Center appears to process in such volume, my pix would just be another of many. This meets my concerns and it's not local.

With comments in mind, my path will be to first speak with a local print shop. Next, the local Walgreens. The idea suggested that I be present during the processing is very good.

There were other suggestions made I believe are sincere and are also considered as possibilities.

Thank you all. When I've completed the task, I might share a photo, without facial identification.

Great suggestion, especially about avoiding locals. Just one point, minor point....every retailer is "local" to someone/someplace.

Just a coupla questions. How many prints? what size prints? If just a few prints- do them yourself. If 9X14 or less do them yourself. If you don't have that size printer- this is a good time to get one.

Yes, the bigger labs see this a lot. And, I am considering buying a printer. I need a newer one for my real work.

Find a lab that is highly recommended and ask them if they will print nudes. A few years ago, I shot a calendar for a well known drive though bikini barista company. The graphic designer did a fabulous job on the calendar, apart from the photographs. A lot of skin but no nipples, etc., but our first choice of printer refused to do print the calendar due to the subject matter. We found another printer who had no problem whatsoever with the subject matter and the printed 4,000 quality calendars.

Living in Montana does present a challenge since they don't always view life as the rest of us do. Printing nudes may be viewed there quite differently than in the rest of the US or UK.

What about giving them the files and then let them find their own printer?

Hi

This is the type of thing that could bite you in the a** at a future date. I suggest you have the "friend" buy an 8GB card for your camera, shoot the pictures to his/her specifications, then remove the card from the camera, give it to him/her and let him/her deal with the printing. Take care & ...
