We as a culture need to stop thinking about watts as a light reference and use it as a power reference. Some bulbs say x watt equivalent but even that does not define it completely.

With LEDs using watts as a power reference and lumens as the amount of light that it puts out will get you closer to your goal. Also kelvin is used, as in photography to indicate the warmth of the light(amount of red or blue.)

FYI - Home Depot gives 10% military discount too

Lowe's will give 10% by just asking for military discount, Home Depot you must have a VA card and on it it has to say "service connected", or no 10% discount.

Also check if it says " cool white " or "day light"
different amounts of light you see.

Sure does'nt sound like you got LEDS. I purchased 4 from Amazon, pricy, but American made. NO ballast needed, direct connection to AC line. Much better than the flourescent.

I get it at Lowes, Home Depot and ask every where I go. It works most of the time.

Yesterday after reading about this topic. I made a trip to Lowes and bought two 48 inch LED lights.
Package said would work with any Ballist and they did. Trouble is they gave off half the light that the Neon did.
Boxed them puppies back up and now off to Lowes for a refund, Price for two was 14.00 with Military discount.
No LEDs for me.

Check your output. Just willy nilly changing things out usually does not work.

That's not very bright. The consumption of the fluoros was probably 20 or 30W

The number after F on a fluorescent tube is the wattage not the length. An F40T12 is a 40 watt bulb. T12 indicates that the the diameter is 12 X 1/10 of an inche, or 1.2 inches, a T8 would be .8 inches in diameter. Nowhere in the designation is the length.

Example being the F32/T8 will fit in the same fixture as the F40/T12. Also be aware that the Ballast used in Flouresent fixtures also consume between 8 and 30 watts of power.

I believe you are incorrect. A military active duty ID card, a retired military ID card or you can present your DD114 to ADOT and get your drivers license with a "veteran" annotation on it.

Two things about LED and this goes for flashlights too. Check out the lumens that they emit. You also have to pay attention to the warranty. Price varies according to each. But one thing nice is the wattage. They only use 8 watts for a 60 watts of illumination so you will never have to worry about the new exceeding the limit of the circuit.

I work at Sam's club as a part-time job. They have a whole 4' fixture for around 35.00 (two rows of LEDs). They are bright as all get out! I'm thinking of buying two of them and mounting them vertically on a pole to serve as a strip light. I think they are balanced to around 4500K and shooting in RAW would be a breeze to tweak the K's up to around 5000/5300. On line they sell a 2-pack for 64.88.

Use strobes!!!! cheaper than high output leds , light fall off is terrible with LEDs.
Oops thought you were using the LEDs for photography.
However good bright LEDs are not cheap!!! and the above statement still stands
