Hi, I'm looking for some advice please. I have stupidly agreed to photograph my nephews wedding and my wife is going to act as number two. I have a 1Ds mkiii and a 24-105, 50 f1.2, 70-200, but my other camera is a 7D. I need the 24-105 and the other lenses are a little too long for a crop sensor, or so I think. I don't have a large budget but am thinking of a all round ef s that would be suitable for wedding photos.
Any advice would be welcome. I use the 7D for wildlife mainly.

I heard all good stuff about the EF-S 18-135mm 4-5.6(?) IS STM. Most reviews feel that it is a good walk-around camera, and to me, sounds like it would work well at weddings too.
The cost for new I believe is around $400-500. Someone slap me if I'm wrong.

If you don't need IS the 80-200 f4L is a great choice for under $600, as it can be used on both your cameras

Your 24-105 would be excellent giving you the focal lengths you are likely to want. If it were me I would mount the fast 50 on the second camera to provide a faster lens at a good all around focal length. I wouldn't be in a hurry to spend a bunch of money if it were me. I think you have things covered pretty well already. Just my opinion!

Thanks for your replies. I guess that the 50 on the 7D would do, trouble is my wife wants zoom so she doesn't have to move too much!.
I do need the 24-105 on mine so am looking for a reasonable zoom.
Wondered about a used 17-40 perhaps, but the 18-135 sounds good.

Nothing wrong with the 17-40L for the price. It will give your wife the equivalent of 27-64 on the 7D and an UW on your FF, which you don't have. I picked one up for $360 in perfect condition from a UHH member and am very satisfied with the results. Ultra wide range zooms (beyond 3 or 4:1) are very handy for a one-size-fits-all lens, but there are typically optical compromises which result compared to a more limited range.

I got everything you'd want with my Sigma 17-70 OS C 2,8-4 APS_C only. As the mystery Uncle staying outa the way of the pros last week. It performed well. and the OS really helped. About $360 last yr @ Adorama.

If you don't need to go too wide, don't bother with an EF-S, check out the EF 28-135 IS USM. It's a great lens, there's a gazillion of them out there and you should be able to pick up a nice clean used on a whole lot cheaper than a new EF-S, plus it's a pretty good looking lens also.

Or, look into renting if you don't think you would have a lot of use for the lens after the wedding.

You never said if you have shot a wedding before. Your wife being #2 will of course be helpful if the wedding is large. And you will need to know the wedding itinerary to prepare for certain shots. I shot one wedding in past years. Never again as an amateur. Best for the pros and get paid for it.

I suggest the 15 to 85mm lens, which gives you enough angle for group shots when you're constrained and is long enough for reaching out a moderate distance. And it's moderate cost is an attraction. It's a good all around lens.

The 15-85 is a great lens - if - you can live with the slow f-stops.
