I was hit on the side by a lady running a stop sign. She told the cop she had stopped but did not see me. I was on the main road--only the side roads had the stop signs. She could not explain why she hit me with such force that I was pushed past the stop sign of the opposing side. Then she had the nerve to say if I hadn't been on the road, she would not have hit me. Go figure!!

She told a cop that she couldn't see you. Were you wearing your invisibility cloak? What a stupid thing to tell a cop.

Of course, it's true that if you weren't there, she would not have hit you. So it was half your fault.

PDS, I've never owned a car that could sustain $21,000 in damage. LOL

Can anyone recommend a good one at a reasonable price?

Go to: http://dashcamtalk.com/ and read the reviews on the many dash cams available.

I have the Street Guardian SG9665GC (around $200) with a 64 GB micro card for about 8 hours recording and am more than pleased.
It mounts flush to the windshield (behind my rear view mirror), doesn't hang down in your line of sight like many of the cheaper ones do and is barely noticeable from outside the car.

Complacency and assuming can get you killed in many environments. The old saying " familiarity breeds contempt ". A friend of mine was so familiar with his job he didn't fasten his safety belt and went 1 mile down the shaft at the Sunshine silver mine in Idaho. They found enough of him to fill a lunch sack. I use this example on my kids and everyone that will listen. Pay attention to what you are doing.

Yesterday, about two miles from my house, a 75 year old man was killed in a car accident. A large dump truck ran a red light at about 45 mph but the old man pulled out into the road and got t-boned on the driver's side. He was wearing a seat belt but they can only do so much. My point is, please everyone, look both ways before pulling out onto any road. Don't just assume, because you have a green light, that no one is coming.

This kind of thing happens often here in Phoenix so defensive driving is a must. I would imagine that truck driver has had his happiest days.

It begins recording as soon as the car is turned on. Every few seconds, it saves the data to the micro SD card. It's better to have a short accumulation time - like five seconds, rather than twenty. When the card is full, it records over itself.

Thanks

I recently finished a money-saving 6-hour online safety course given through my insurance company. In NY, there are no laws concerning right of way. However, drivers must yield right of way. Confusing? Definitely. Generally, the car on your right at a 4-way intersection has the right of way, but it's not a law, so a collision would be blamed on the car doing the hitting. So right of way is a courtesy more than a law.

Actually New York seems to have quite a number of laws covering right of way and spell out clearly who has the right of way in different situations.

Yes, Right of Way is a strange concept. According to the online course, you do have to yield RoW in NY, but the law doesn't say what it is. I'm afraid that common sense is involved, and you know how well that works.

Here are the New York laws. Minnesota's right of way laws are clearly spelled out also and people get ticketed for failure to yield the right of way all the time.

In Minnesota, the traffic laws are careful to say "shall yield right of way." That is not saying who has right of way, but people do make that assumption. I have never heard of anyone being ticketed for failing to yield, tho.

Minnesota right of way laws are very clear and people are ticketed for failure to yield the right of way all the time.

When driving my motorcycle I know for a fact that every driver out there wants to kill me and drive accordingly. The biggest problem is people that look right at you and pull out right in front of you. That incluses "left tun Larry" who tuns left right in front of you coming at you on a two lane. Motorcycles are literally invisible to many drivers. The second biggest problem is they run into you when stopped at a light or in traffic. And yes, always the one who thinks they can make it through the light, or is too busy texting to even notice the light.

Idaho law somewhat encourages the latter as you are legal as long as the light is yellow when you enter the intersection.

I'm sorry to hear that, Jack.
After reading the replies, I really need one myself.
Just think how much better drivers using dash cams will drive.
I know I would. Wouldn't want to have video evidence hit the net of what I might have done (thinking bonehead stuff)LOL
I might point out that motorcycles are very difficult to see, so maybe we should all look REALLY hard, not to miss spotting a bike.

Thank you!

The human brain literally makes motorcycles invisible to many drivers in many instances. Their brain is primed to look for auto and truck sizes and shapes and ignore everything else. Many tests confirm this fact.

And now we have the texters...
