When I travel, I usually only take my Canon 70D. I am not a Pro, and have never thought about taking a backup. I have an older 60D that is in excellent shape, and now I am wondering if I should take along both of them to Croatia in September. what are everyone's thoughts.

In a word YES!

I would take both with a wide lens on one and a tele lens on the other. It is usually easier to change cameras than lenses plus you don't run the risk of getting dust into the body.

For backup I would go to the Canon G11 or G12 they are very versatile and have great lenses

The best camera you can have is the camera you have with you; or conversely, the best camera you can have is the camera you left at home . . .
