Hello all,
I am on the verge of buying the X-T1 or X-T10. Here is my dilemma. I was just about to pull the trigger on the X-T10 with a 16-55 lens. However the lens does not have OIS. The cheaper 18-55 does have OIS. If I decide to buy the cheaper lens then I will probably buy the X-T1 with the lens savings. My question to you Fuji users is how important is not having the stabilization on the 16-55? Im 60 years old, I really don't shake but I'm no brain surgeon either! Thanks for the help, Marty

As an Olympus em-1 user, I have 5 axis image stabilization and I don't think I could ever go back to a non stabilized system. But that is just me. Why not go to a local store if there is one and try to shoot with both lenses in the back of the store. Maybe you are super still. Who knows?

It might be prudent for you to even rent both lenses for a few days just to see if it really maters to you...

The Xt-1 is a superior camera and the 18-55 lens is excellent. Fuji is coming out with the Xt-2 in less than a month and you might want to wait for that.

I have an 18-55 that I use on my X-T1. I rented the 16-55 for a few days to try it out. The 16-55 is slightly wider, of course. It is much larger and heavy. It has a constant F2.8 whereas my 18-55 is variable at F2.8-F4.0. My 18-55 has Image stabilization. The 16-55 does not. The 16-55 is weather sealed so it makes a nice addition to the X-T1 which is also weather sealed. The X-T10 is not weather sealed. Image quality from both lenses is excellent. I love Fuji glass. Buying the 16-55 as a kit with either camera will save you some money. Buying the 16-55 separate will set you back $1199. If I were to buy the 16-55 I would want it mounted on the X-T1. My opinion is to get the X-T1 with the 18-55 and invest in some of Fuji's excellent prime lenses. The X-T1 price is much lower now and will continue to drop as the X-T2 will be announced soon.

I have both. The 18-55 is a better fit for the XT10 in terms of balance/weight. IQ is fantastic for a "kit lens".The money you save will be enough to buy a prime in addition. Image quality is very close in the real world. The 16-55 is awesome, but heavy and probably not worth the prize difference unless you are a pro.

I've shot many magazine assignments with the XT-1 and 18-55 and highly recommend the combo. This lens is surprisingly sharp. While the 16-55 is faster, it is bigger and heavier than the 18-55, which for me defeats the purpose of the mirrorless system in the first place. (I'm also a Nikon shooter with pro glass, and I've been shooting more and more assignments with my Fuji system.) While you may want to wait for the soon to be released XT-2, the XT-1 represents an excellent value at the moment. If money is a major concern, the XT-1/18-55 is a great package.

It also depends on what you want from a lens. As a Fuji shooter, (X-E1) I find that the 18-55 is a terrific lens with excellent IQ. If you want WR, then the 16-55 is the way to go. However, as you mentioned it doesn't have IS. The 18-55 is an excellent lens with IS and balances well on either the X-T1 or X-T10. If you are looking to go light and wider, the X-T10 with the 16-50 is very competent as well.

Purchased the X-T1 as a kit with the 18-55 OIS lens. When the 16-55mm lens came out I purchased it. I'm 67 and find that I rarely need OIS. The 16-55 is what I keep on the X-T1.

Perfect, the reply I wanted to see. You say "rarely" what do you photograph the most? I am a street guy so I could get away with either, however when I do take portraits I dont want to be saying *&^% I wish i had OIS. Thanks Marty

Excellent, thank you. I too am a Nikon shooter with Pro glass, so we seemed to be in the same happy boat! :)

That's the thing, I dont want an additional prime lens. I want one lens the right lens and not second guess myself. I have Nikon gear and a ton of pro glass. Thanks for the reply.

I, too, have two Nikon full frame bodies and a lot of Nikon pro glass. So I bought the Fuji for travel and for street photography (using the pancake 27 mm f/2.8 lens). For other than the maximum in inconspicuousness I got the most versatile of Fuji's zoom lenses, the 18-135 which is also water resistant and image stabilized. I'm happy with its IQ. If I'm going out to do the kind of photography for which I need the Nikon, I don't need to buy heavy lenses for the Fuji. You could even get a Metabones adapter and use your Nikon lenses on the Fuji in a pinch.

I can't comment on the 16-55, but the 18-55 is a gem! The quality is superb, small, elegant, sharp - like all Fuji products. Get the xt-1. If you love quality and elegance, you will love the camera!

If longer than 16 or18-55mm zoom is needed, the 18-135 WR is also very capable and a good travel lens.
