For photographing at the reception hall, get a couple of lights with the metal dishes often used with auto repair at $10 each and install a CF bulbs. This will be a non hot, constantly lit source that should not stress the son. It is jut enough light to capture detail without a flah. You can use flahes when not photographing the sun. TEST, TEST and Test some more before the wedding. Shoot RAW has benefits and you'll need to adjut white balance when using this setup.

I need a little help! I'm working second camera at a wedding and they want indoor pics without flash since their son has autism. We don't have any type of studio lighting to cover the church or the reception hall. Any techniques to use photograph their son?

Additional lighting may solve the problem for you. If the lighting works, you can eliminate much of your stress but you will need the aperture (2.8 or better) and ISO to compensate for you if lighting is not an option or where lighting is not able to reach.

no flash allowed in the church and neither of us have lighting. I don't think the minster would allow it any way.

If you are shooting weddings I assume you are getting paid for the job and as such, you are professionals. As professional photographers you would be expected to own lighting systems.

Therefore you should make the next step to being real professional photographers and purchase your own lighting set ups. If you are being payed as wedding photographers the client has a right to expect you to know your trade and be good at it.

Therefore you should already have been experienced in knowing the capability of your camera in varying lighting situations. That is what makes the difference between a real professional photographer and just anyone of the public with a camera wannabe types out there.

If you don't know your camera well enough to handle varying lighting situations and don't own any lighting equipment,I would suggest you leave the work to a professional that does know what he is doing. They get paid for having that knowledge and equipment.

I don't mean to be getting at anyone, I am just stating true facts. For example, I'm sure you would not want anyone of your family to be medically treated by someone who does not know how to use the equipment he/she owns to it's full potential, and lack the equipment needed to do a proper job of treatment and be handled by someone who is going to the internet asking for help in how to treat your family member.

Since you are second camera, does the main camera person lack all of the same things mentioned above, as well? That is a little like the blind leading the blind. I would suggest you work as second camera to someone who knows what they are doing and is a real pro photographer, because they would have the proper equipment and be able to actually teach you something. I mean that in the kindest possible way.

Would also like to hear more about setting a custom white balance using a Gary Fong dome.
