As far as broad practice goes, I agree, you are correct, but read Dueteronomy 13, and 17. It commands the killing of non believers. Perhaps you would like to remove those pages from your holy tome.

Croce, you must understand that Deuteronomy 13 and 17 does not have anything to do with Christianity. For one thing, because the Old Testament Laws and all of its requirements were fullfilled, releasing the Jews from the myriad legal requirements contained in the Law. Also, Deuteronomy was basically about the Hebrews preparing to enter into the Promised Land. It was to be a Theocracy, centered around God. The directions in Deut. 13 and 17 were that 1: if someone were to entice the Jews to follow a false god, that person should be put to death, and 2: if someone were worshipping a false god, that person should be put to death. It should be noted that Deut. 17, which required the worshipper of a false god to be put to death required 2 or 3 witnesses before the sentence could be carried out. This killing of worshipers of false gods was in order to keep Israel untainted.

Again, Croce, this was a specific command from God to the Hebrews as they entered Israel and has no application to Christians. No, we don't want to remove them from the Bible. They, for one, are historical, and they do show God's attitude towards those who worship false gods. As God said in Exodus 20:5 (remember the gods of Egypt, Croce?):

New Living Translation: You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected--even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.

If you question this, just look at those countries surrounding Israel who, at the time of Moses, were worshipping false gods.

Croce, you must understand that Deuteronomy 13 and... (show quote)

If I understand this correctly.....the Bible says that God says to kill everyone that worships a "false" god.

Don't most religions believe that their god is the one true God?

So Christians should actively KILL Muslims...because they worship a "false" god?

What about Buddhists?

Apparently, reading for comprehension is not your strong suit. Read my post again. Slowly.

Translation: chrisscholbe, don't read the whole bible. Just pay attention to the parts that Steve wants you to. Steve will helpfully provide the sanitized version for you.

It also helps to have read the quote and response the first time.

Some one recently said something about how sometimes its just funny and hard to resist jumping into the shit storm and batting a few of his turds back at the turd thrower. I figured that, since you have been regularly batting turds at me pretty obsessively as of late, and that, additionally, you are the one who recently said something about it being funny and hard to resist batting a few back, that you could appreciate me batting a few of your turds back at you, no?

From the Ntional Catholic Reporter:

"This week, I interviewed a Jewish rabbi, a Muslim imam and scholar, and a Methodist minister about this question: "Do Jews, Christians and Muslims worship the same God?" All three said, "yes … basically they do." (Not all representatives of these three traditions would agree, of course, but these three -- all veterans of the interfaith movement -- said yes right away.) Now, they recognized some complications, like the Christian belief in the Trinity and that Jesus is called the "Son of God," but they still came away affirming that God is basically one and the same for all three traditions."

This was also my understanding........false gods in the bible refers to something much different (examples? Gold/money, a god of Thunder, zeus, etc.)

Having myself inquired about this very question, it is my impression that Steve is a true believer and does indeed waste an inordinate portion of his life studying and regurgitating this shit, and will give long winded bible lectures to people who did not ask for them and aren't at all interested in them. Be forewarned.

Allah is a monotheistic god. The Christian and Judeo God is Trinitarian. That the Trinitarian God is still One God is not the same as a monotheistic god being one god. That God is Love comes from His Being as a Trinitarian God trough eternity past. Love is one of God's attributes. The same cannot be said of Allah. God and Allah are not the same.

It's amazing how much this "subject" comes up in you non-believers conversation on UHH, prompting me to respond. It's where I received my education. I have a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Wheaton College and three years at Dallas Theological Seminary. I try not to be long winded, just long enough to answer the question....such as why God and Allah are not the same, and why the Pope should have known better than to make that mistake.

Perhaps. But you have to understand that to non-believers, what you see as huge differences between God and Allah, appear as trivial differences about two invisible dudes in the sky in whose name(s) countless millions of people have been slaughtered and tortured based on a cursory review of the history of both religions and the insanity they have unleashed onto the world.

You speak very glibly, basing your non-belief upon the actions of men. Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount, "by their fruits shall you know them." So, Keenan, perhaps you should read history more in-depth and then base your judgment upon the individuals of history by Jesus words. As for Jesus, He is the Prince of Peace.

No, I speak based on documented history, not on belief. Do I really need to document for you how many millions on both sides have been killed and victimized in the name of God and Allah over the last thousand years?
