Hey SteveR - not only do I want to upgrade my camera but I also want a new bass boat. Already have one but now 5 years old and new models are sooo nice. Talk about two expensive hobbies. And of course need a newer fish finder and the newer rod and reels are so wonderful to hold. Why only need six more to go along with the eight I already have. Let's see, new rod and reel or new camera? Talking about making a decision - makes my head hurt.

Charles....What? Are the fish getting smarter?

Fran...Don't feel bad...MT already has the Nikkor 300mm f2.8 lens, perhaps Nikon's flagship lens. He's replacing it with the new VRII version!! I could fill most of my wish list with what that one lens costs!!!

About one year ago I upgraded to a Canon t2i body. Then I had to upgrade my zoom to the Canon 70-300 IS L lens. Recently I decided to upgrade my walk around lens to the Canon 18-70 IS L lens. NOW I can't stop thinking about the 7D body!!! I want to know if it is as spectacular as 'everyone' says. I just rented it for one week (arrives Tuesday) to give it a whirl. I'm afraid I'm going to fall in love...

OMG Fran, you've caught equipmentitis. It is an epidemic disease among photogs. The only known treatment is to spend 6 mo. in Lhasa Apso with Buddhist monks. This will take you a thousand miles from camera shops and hopefully internet sources. It will teach you that what you own is adequate as you learn to use your on hand equipment to capture the awesome Himalayan scenery and the sunny brown faces of the sherpas. Best of luck please post when you return.

Become Amish and do away with all these items. No camera, no computer, no car, no electric bills.

You'll love the 7D. My favorite and most used feature is the electronic level.
I use this all the time with my tripod. info about it is on page 48 & 221 in the manual.

You will <fall in love with the 7D>. To touch it is to love it < sigh  >. As a physician, I can confirm that Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS) cannot be cured - not even by anti-flatulents such as Simethicone or Canon L :( . It MAY be tempered by attending GASA meetings (GAS Anonymous) using the f/STOP method.
.
If you are simply a rabid hobbyist, such as myself, you might consider mitigating the cost of the 7D by selling your T2i on E-Bay. If you are a pro shooter - you may find having the T2i as a second body comes in handy.
.
At THIS particular juncture - I have decided to stick with the 7D and am not considering an upgrade to full frame 5D model, as I have several EF-S style lenses that I really like {they won't work with a FF camera}. I am hoping my GAS will end once I get an 300mm prime, an 18-70 and a 30mm f/1.8 - - but fear it MAY never stop - -

Get the 7D now and bundle it with the EF-s17-55mm F2.8 IS lens (should save a few hundred $$'s). You will think your heart stopped and you are now in heaven. Next year add the EF 70-200mm F2.8 IS mkII and not only will you feel like heaven, you will feel like God!! The f2.8 lenses will give you great low light opportunites, the focus is fast and the image quality will make you smile and proud to show off your captures. I use this set up 95% of the time. Let me know if you pull the trigger and good luck.

Better than spending $300 on a frickin' pair of sneakers!!

I'm not exaggerating. My son got up early when the new Jordan's came out and bought a pair for $160. He immediately put them on Craig's list and got bids of $270 and $300 and told the bidders he'd sell them to whoever met him first.

My 5dm2 shoots about 4 frames a second which less than a 7d. I just was signed on as a stringer to a major newspaper in the area. My first photo were published last week. I began in the 60's using a 4x5 speed graphic which shoots about one picture every two minutes and a Rolliflex 21/2 square which is one frame every few seconds. Faster frames is nice but doesn't guarantee you will get good pictures. With those old camera, back in the day, I had to learn to anticipate the action. I won awards back then also. I rarely use the 4 frames feature. My camera is always set for it but rarely used. I don't shoot nearly as many photos as the other photographers and I always walk away with great pictures.
In September there is the big photo show in Germany, where many of the new products are introduced. Canon is introducing some new models. You might want to go to Canonrumors.com and see what the current rumors are before you buy.
Ah, heck....go buy the camera, you really want it.

What issues are you having with your current camera. What pictures is it not allowing you to take? What pictures would you be taking if you had the new camera? A camera is a tool. What do you want to use the tool for that the current tool doesn't allow you to do? How much more often would you use the new tool?

I don't have any issues with my current camera. We have a good thinggoing. However, what appeals to me about the 7d is the additional focusing capabilities. I take a lot of sports shots and suspect it would be beneficial.

I'm sitting on the fence wondering if Canon will make a Canon 7D II. Many say no, but I feel they must have an upgrade to the 7D. If not they are missing the boat.

:?: Do you ever shoot pictures?
Sorry - it is not the latest or greatest equipment, that makes a photographer - otherwise we would all be buying Hasselblad or Mamiya DSLR's - Use what you got to the best you can. There have been some great photo's from poor rated equipment.
No it never stops.
