About one year ago I upgraded to a Canon t2i body. Then I had to upgrade my zoom to the Canon 70-300 IS L lens. Recently I decided to upgrade my walk around lens to the Canon 18-70 IS L lens. NOW I can't stop thinking about the 7D body!!! I want to know if it is as spectacular as 'everyone' says. I just rented it for one week (arrives Tuesday) to give it a whirl. I'm afraid I'm going to fall in love...

I own 2 of the 7D's and I really like them. They are great value for the money. They have most of the features of a true professional camera but with a very good crop sensor rather than Full Frame. It is more complicated to use and has a learning curve, as no doubt you've read on this site with MollyMolly and Oldtool's recent posts. But we're here to help if you need it. Renting it is a great way to get a feel for whether you like it or not. Good luck!
Believe it or not, it can end, or at least slow down a lot. I'm not going to buy a new DSLR until my current one wears out (it's only a Nikon D70), and I find it hard to imagine that a Leica M10, whenever it may appear, will offer enough advantages over my M9 to persuade me to buy the new camera. I've had the M9 for two and a half years, and together with my MP, I don't really want anything else. There's the occasional new lens, yes, but even then, I know full well that I am more limited by laziness and lack of talent than by my cameras. Over the last 45 years or so I've tried a lot of cameras over the years, and in a sense, I've come out the other side: I have the ones I want, and I don't want new ones.
Mind you, I should warn you that I have five Leicas, and over a dozen lenses for them, ranging in age from 1936 to 2010...
Cheers,
R.
It ends when the heart monitor shows a flat line.

The grass is always greener... and there is always a better mousetrap, and you will always want a "better" camera. Indeed, from the collection of bodies in my shop (camera bodies that is), MWAC is right - it really never ends.
You will love the 7D. Great technology and capability for the money, hands down! Then in the next year or so you will have to choose between a 5D Mark V and an 8D.
It ends when your credit card is denied.

Swiggle button? Dag nab it! Mine doesn't have one!
I am with Roger Hicks. It might not END, but it certainly slows. I updated my Nikons with every iteration until the D3 and D7000. Those two cameras have the image quality and resolution perfect for my work - portraits. The $6000 D4 is great, but not $6000 better than the D3. That D800 looks tempting, but I really need to evaluate if that is going to do anything I really need. Customers only care what the images look like, not what number follows the "D."
I learned many years ago that money put into education was usually better spent than into a new bit of gear. Once you get to gear that delivers what you want, you really need to evaluate want vs. need.
Just ask this question...if you were a fisherman, would you buy a bass boat? Just think what bass boats cost. Now, put together your long term list and don't worry if it comes close to what a bass boat would cost. After all, unless you win pro fishing tournaments, fishing isn't going to put food on the table...er, well maybe it will, but maybe your photography can help pay for those expensive doo-dads.

All the positive comments about the 7d are really making me justify purchasing one. Love the bass boat analogy; it's so true!!! I do love to take pictures; keeps me out of trouble!!! I see a body upgrade in my future! ;)
As they all say - it never really ends until the monitor flat lines.
Hey SteveR - not only do I want to upgrade my camera but I also want a new bass boat. Already have one but now 5 years old and new models are sooo nice. Talk about two expensive hobbies. And of course need a newer fish finder and the newer rod and reels are so wonderful to hold. Why only need six more to go along with the eight I already have. Let's see, new rod and reel or new camera? Talking about making a decision - makes my head hurt.
