Check out the Nikon DL 18-50, an Nikon DL 24-85, which should be in stores in July, or August. Also consider the Nikon 1 V3.

I'm not going to read through the rest of the pages, so I might be repeating something already said. But I will say I own the Olympus XZ-2 mentioned here. Outstanding IQ and great low-light with an f1.8 lens. A little big for a shirt pocket but will fit in some. SHOOTS RAW AND FULL MANUAL, a big plus! With $20 adapter, you can add a filter or a tele or wide lens adapter.

I also really like my Olympus SZ-31. Smaller, fits snugly in a shirt pocket. NO RAW OR MANUAL, but outstanding video (slo-mo, 24p, etc.) and very good IQ. Also lets you take stills and video simultaneously, and it extracts stills from video in-body.

As with most pocket p&s cameras, these both have rather small sensors so not much latitude for cropping. Of course, the zooms do make proper framing easier.

dpreview has a new article about "enthusiast compact cameras" currently available. Included were descriptions and discussions of the following:

Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II
Canon PowerShot G5 X
Canon PowerShot G7 X
Canon PowerShot G9 X
Fujifilm X30
Fujifilm XQ2
Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100
Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100/TZ100
Sony Cyber-shot RX100
Sony Cyber-shot RX100 II
Sony Cyber-shot RX100 III
Sony Cyber-shot RX100 IV

The overall best was the RX100 IV with "best for travel" being the ZS-100.

I have checked the previous posts but, maybe you will be able to narrow down my search. ( I have a Nikon 7100...but) I need a pocket camera... to be with me all the time

looking for the point & shoot which:
1. fits into my shirt pocket- does not have to be ultra slim
2. has the sharpest pictures !!! w good color !!! and high pixel count / chip size to allow some enlargement
3. no need for water tight but sturdy
4. view finder would be nice but not a must
5. no need for extra long zoom, nor extra wide
6. has a flash, but average
7. no need to extra perform in low light
8. low cost (of course), but not the limitation
9. not need for movie and sound

* I have eliminated Olympus Tough & GoPro <- not good picture quality & no bridge cameras (still too big)

Thank you for your help Miro

I'm sure all the previously mentioned cameras are super good. But just my 2 cents ---
I love to buy P &S's from those sketchy places on ebay just to try them and have fun, so I have tried alot of them. My favorite by far (and seems to meet all your above criteria) is the Sony RX100 - the first one.
I sold it to buy the MIV - and I like the original better !!
The picture quality was amazing and one time I dropped down a set of cement stairs in a parking garage and it was FINE !!
They go for about $340 on ebay now, and worth every penny.
Need Cheaper???
Another stand out on my list is the Lumix DMC ZS35 - it was $100 on ebay last year. I was shocked at how awesome this $100 camera was !! So many fun features too.
But what I have found after buying and selling so many cameras is that they are all pretty darn good !!

Yes - I would stick with a new camera. You can find new awesome cameras for under $150. The technology is getting better and better everyday.
Just go to Walmart - ours actually has a nice camera area. They have great sales. Any newer model will take good pictures.

Thank you for your time and contributing to my search. I have a Sony bridge camera DSC-HX100V

I must say I do not like it . It breaks . Right now I can not use the push wheel to change settings. Before I got a bit of dirt in it and the main switch got crazy. (PS: I am a clean person= not Sony in mud hole)

After I resolve pocket cam I will try again some super zoom ...probably Canon60. Not sure yet.

I am still digging thru the list from people -listed was only the half.
I have also checked my old Sony DSC-HX100V pictures - better than I thought.(not a pocket size)

I also have narrowed some other evaluation of Bridge cams - however I will create a new posting.

Thank you so much again for your input (still working on it).

I have loads of lenses and cameras and assessories. Came to Minnesota this weekend for funeral. All the family here, so lots of pictures taken. Had my trusty canon sd 940s image-stabilized point&shoot digital elph 12.1 mp. IT's amazing how great the photos are with that camera. I attached a long chain-type lanyard to it so its in my shirt pocket all the time. If you want to get a very mobile high quality camera, do go look at as many as you can and spend what it costs to get your favorite one that meets all your needs (completely) they ARE out there. You will probably take more pictures with the "camera in your pocket than any other, so make it the sharpest shooter that you can. You needn't get ANYTHING bigger than a shirt-pocket, to get fabulous anytime/anywhere, photos. All the suggestions here-in on the whole thread, are great suggestions. Good-old ugly hedgehog. RJM p.s. I wear the necklace-like lanyard attached camera around my neck. I say it's a PACEMAKER, to those that ask what it is.
