How about a thumbnail file for the postings with images

Buddah 1, I think your idea would be great help to me. As, is, my time priorities don't include viewing every image posted in the Gallery. Thumbnails would show at a glance if I wanted to look at one in detail, whereas now there are many days I don't stop at the Gallery at all due to time allocation.

Tried what you suggested, but I have a Mac Pro laptop and cannot get the link to highlight, so that the option to open in a new tab prompt comes up..

Are you talking about clicking on a link in their signature area or some such? If those links don't work by clicking on them it could be a security setting in your browser or internet security software.

If you can't find the appropriate setting to change you could try highlighting the link by dragging your cursor across it then right-clicking on it and selecting "OPEN LINK IN NEW TAB" (or one of the other "OPEN" options).

Don't know about the rest of the membership, but I often wonder what amazing images I missed everyday on my UHH site.
Right now we have to depend on the title to decide if we should open a post to see the image(s)
How about if there were thumbnail files of the image(s) after the end of the title? (Running horizontally if there are three of them.) While they would be very small, they could at least lead you toward deciding if that positing should be open.
Or another way might be to have them all together, (and numbered to show you what posting they belong to) in a "sheet" form the images should be able to be larger. (There would be one "sheet" posted with each topic area.)
Of course maybe UHH already has something like this somewhere? (What I have found about what I know regarding UHH is that I "know nothing!)

Actually, while I really like the concept of your idea, I think you're asking the wrong question. I don't think it's so much a matter of 'can it be done' as 'who is willing to donate their time to make this happen'. In order for this to happen, the uploaded image would have to be analyzed, copied, converted to a thumbnail, then added to the title before it gets listed. If a batch file cannot be written to do this on-the-fly then someone has to do it for each image uploaded. If it can be done on-the-fly, then the program has to be taught how to differentiate between just the original image(s) posted on a topic and not the ones that have been added subsequent to the topic being created. Creating a 'contact sheet' with thumbnails/titles posted as links, I would think, would create a whole new can of worms.

Again, while I like your idea, sounds like an awful lot of work for someone to voluntarily contribute their time to a free forum.

I understand, but don't we all use thummbnail images now? (EG:After we downloaded some new images to decide which ones to open up?) Guess I'm more of a visual person, rather than one that is interpretive.

Yes & No. I don't use Lightroom, so in my workflow (especially then dealing with older images for say re-work), using Photoshop Bridge and Windows I locate folders by Date and Title, then view the Thumbnails in Bridge.

I can see some positives to your UHH thumbnail suggestion but I kind of like the surprise as well as others are saying. And tiny thumbnails can be as misleading as text titles many times, so you still might "miss" good images. I know this because I often can't seem to find my own images when jpg or tif on my HDD with Windows because the viewed thumbnail is too tiny to interpret properly and I pass right by it. Imagine unknown images. Also it would increase UHH's "size" on its Server and likely slow the site down with yet more graphics (stored & viewed). You can directly PM Management with you suggestion.

But can l get some feedback as to IF this can be done on the site, and if anyone thinks it's a good idea? Thanks..

I agree that this would be a good idea. Especially since there are so many poorly or misleadingly titled posts.

With respect to your view, I would also be a No vote. Titles are necessarily short and some posters are not literary people. It takes but a second to open a post and decide if you want to look further or not. We all do that every day and it takes me about 3 seconds to decide I want to see more of a particular post. Honestly if I do happen to miss viewing the most important photo of a bird on a branch or a flower in a backyard or even of the Taj Mahal it will be posted another time by another poster with a different camera. I will get over it simply by getting another cup of coffee.

I think it's a fine idea. However, it all depends on the site platform and if the templates even allow for thumbnails. Even as someone who has spent time as a copy editor, it is hard to come up with pithy titles that grab someone's attention for every upload.

Go into Preferences
Select Mouse or Trackpad (whichever you are using).

Mouse:
Choose "point and click"
Click on the "Secondary Click" box.
This will set up the "right mouse button" actions that are not set by default on OS X.

Similar for track pad.

Now when you "right click" (with any apple mouse) you will be presented with a sub-menu that will offer the choice of opening the link in a new window or in a new tab.

As they say "Try it, you'll like it".

Does not have to be pithy, just has to convey accurate information. Say, for example, "London Bridge silhouette"
