While in San Antonio for a brief visit Paul approached me to ask if I needed a blanket for the evening. I'm thinking .... maybe I should shave and get a haircut. Blending in has its advantages for me. I suppose I will always have a home on the streets.

Great Portrait!
Camouflage opens many opportunities, I can imagine.

A very good shot that could easily be turned into great with a bit more patience Mr. Chinn. I would like to see a bit more eye work. There is some work around the edges that would improve, mainly starting around his left ear up the hat brim. A tighter crop all the way around even though you have a good start. If Paul was a man hanging around the Haven for Hope Shelter it would be an outstanding gift for their wall along with the short story. Wonderful job and touching photograph.

Dave,
Your image called instantly to mind the phrase: "...a man of gentle, kindly
mein."

Expression is everything (and the rest is processing :-) ). The fact that you can evoke that sort of reaction for the camera indicates that you have a gift for portraiture.

The only thing I notice about the processing is that the irises and whites of the eyes look a bit funny. Did you add grain - and can you mask the eyes from it? Or is it the sharpening that's given that grainy look round the eyes? A softer touch to the eyes would suit Paul's general demeanour.

Great expression captured Dave that's for sure. Does need a little refining in PP I think. Frank has mention the halo and R.G. has pointed out the eyes need some work.
Another 30 mins in Photoshop and it will be a truly great shot.

Nice shot, Dave, you captured him perfectly. Also enjoyed the narrative about how you got this shot.

First rate. Doesn't take a back seat to the best of the rest I've seen of this genre, period.

Terrific shot. Love the way Paul looks. From a photographic standpoint, I think it is cropped too closely on the left (probably the way you had to get the shot) and could be a bit lighter with a little brighter highlights. Otherwise, very well done.

Thanks for your input Frank !!! It is greatly appreciated. I agree with everything you have suggested and I'm posting a revised version on another thread.

I'm not sure where I was in San Antonio when this was taken but I would be willing to gift the image to Haven for Hope Shelter if I had the correct contacts. Maybe you could help with that issue.

I have no contact with the organization Dave but since he offered a blanket I thought you possibly might have been around their facility. If he just offered you his blanket then I’m totally off base. Most any organization here readily accepts most anything and truly appreciates it so if you are so inclined http://www.havenforhope.org/new/ . Do not feel obligated from anything I have said….was meant as more of a compliment than statement. You are a very kind man Dave.
