LOL no that isn't a large capacity card but large packaging. In theory, it keeps the honest thieves from stealing the memory cards. In reality, the thieves will use a box knife to cut the card out of the plastic and leave the retailer with lots of empty cardboard. So, most retailers keep the Large Cardboard and their memory cards locked up so that the customer has to ask for them.

Yeah, he knows. He was being facetious.

Really people?????? The Nikon next to the card is not a miniature camera. That package is huge? Just read the statement, let it soak fully into your brain before commenting.

The Nikon next to the card is a Pentax.
Please look at the picture and let it soak fully into your brain in before commenting

Unfortunely we as readers sometimes cannot determine when a poster is talking tongue in cheek.

YES, that seems to be the case. No one noticed how large the packaging was in my (crappy) photo with the camera for size comparison? Just seems odd to me that photographers would be so non-visual and even noticed my text. On FB the image alone would have gathered some laughs. Oh, well ...

Pentax. I'm not offended. I could have posed the big card with a Nikon-W View Camera lens I own instead. LOL.

The packaging is not a waste to the manufacturer. You're paying for it. It is large to prevent theft and to entice your eyes. Nowadays, you can get good bargain priced Sony 32gb SD cards for as low as $9.99 at B&H and Amazon.

But, if everyone did that, we wouldn't have any nits to pick!

Not to worry... some of us got the joke... first try and even without any ;)

The packaging for a lot of computer-related stuff is absurd. But, as someone pointed out, intended for theft prevention off retail (or warehouse) shelves. Some of the worst are the heat-sealed plastic bubbles you practically need an axe to remove the product.

Just be glad you aren't having to use 5" floppies in your camera!

Oh God, I was talking about the size of the packaging as a joke, not the actually byte count of the card. Of course they come in huge 128GB capacity. I was joking about the giant packaging. The UHH is really too serious at times. The gearheads really need to go outside and take some pictures. Note, I said they were under lock & key. The computers then should come in house-sized boxes to prevent employee theft.

The reason I have been told of the packaging is because of theft. All of the packaging you now see is because of theft. That is why it is so big, over done and impossible to get into. It infuriates me when I have to use dynamite to get into a package. BTW why do I need exorbitant packaging for screws and washers.

I just bought two of these at Costco. The packaging is absurd and a waste of materials. And considering the product had to be picked up from a security room after purchase and not on the floor, what is the point?

No!
Large capacity is 64 to 128.

I just bought 3 of them 4 weeks ago at Costco.
I find them to be plenty large enough for a complete Family Shoot.

The card is a 90 MbS. If you shoot bursts on continuous shooting you might want to go with something faster. I use at least 150 mbs. And please realize that these cards are so easy to put into your pocket and walk out with. (no, I know you would not do it but everyone else would) That is why the extra security.

I use 2 32 cards with 95 read and 90 write and have never had any problems with burst shooting. I shoot raw at 24 megs and usually burst 5 to 6 shots. The importance of a card is the write, more so than the read.

that would be a medium capacity card. they make a 64 and a 128 that would be considered as a large capacity card. I prefer the 32, as I do not want a weeks worth of photos on one card, all your eggs in one basket so to speak. also, a lot of merchandisers put the 32 on sale, so you could buy two 32 cards for less than one 64. as to the packaging and the security, it is unfortunately the world we live in today.

Also prefer the 32 gb cards
