I've bought refurbished Nikon glass from both Nikon USA and Adorama with very satisfying results in both savings and quality. I'm currently looking to purchase a new portrait lens, and am wondering if KEH is a good company to deal with. Have any members had any experience dealing with KEH, and were your transactions handled professionally ? Would you do it again and/or recommend them to your friends ?

I've made two purchases from KEH. They have been excellent to deal with. Perhaps a tad pricey, but they seem to stand behind their sales.

Have always read KEH sends better than rated gear out.

Their Bargain (BGN) rating means the item works and there may be slight impact on images.

I could care less what my "daily user" gear looks like, so I always buy KEH bgn rated and always get better than anticipated.

I get the benefit of extremely low prices and the images get captured quite well.

My 1977 Chevrolet truck looks like shit (no straight panels anywhere), but it always starts and I always get to my destination on time.

Anything better is a waste of money!!!

I've been dealing with them for years with both new & used gear. Never an issue. I have had to return 2 different lenses that were not up to my expectations, but the returns went smoothly (I live about 30 miles from them & opt to run stuff by there as opposed to sending them). They don't give a lot for selling stuff to them, but nobody does. I find that people spend more for less desirable gear on eBay than KEH. Many times I have found the same gear on KEH a lesser costs than eBay. I just wish they had a showroom that I could peruse...

I too believe they seem to under-rate their used equipment. Plus they're very personable on the phone.

I've had numerous dealings with KEH over the years... They are top notch, very professional and just plain good folks.

Their grading system for used products is conservative... a lens they called a "8 minus" looked near new to me!

They also have liberal right of return policy and usually offer at least some warranty on things they sell. You might find things a little cheaper elsewhere, but usually won't be warranted or might have other shortcomings.

I often recommend KEH and have no concerns doing so.

B&H and Adorama used depts. are also quite good. Along with KEH, all three are long-established and very reliable.

ACTUALLY THEIR PRICES ARE QUITE REASONABLE AND IN GENERAL BETTER THAN THOSE ON EBAY.

All this good talk about KEH caused me to look and I ended up buying a lens.

A wise move! Word of mouth is always the best form of advertising! ;-)

BTW, what'd you get?

500 f4 AFS VR II. Been lusting after this lens and finally found one in the condition and price that appealed to me.

I had a manual focus version years ago and it was awesome for small birds but the manual focus was a hindrance. Missed a lot of shots.

I decided on this version because it will be used on a tripod since it is too heavy to hand hold, at least for me.

I have been using a 300 2.8 with and without a TC and almost never use the VR. The VR slows the focus at times and with song birds fast focus is critical.

Considerable savings without the VR.

Its on its way to be delivered today. Can hardly wait.

I've purchased a camera body and a couple of lens from KEH and have been very happy doing business with them and will do so again in the future.
