Listen numbnucks, the post was meant for the guy who posted it. And by the way, my 50mm f1.8 g has a switch ON THE LENS, it gives the user two options, M/A or M. M/A means AUTO FOCUS and M means manual focus. If on his D7000 the lens switch is on M he will only be able to Manual focus the lens, it will not auto focus. If the switch is set to M/A, then the lens will auto focus. And, I was only trying to help the guy out. Stay out of it if you do not know what your talking about or DO NOT OWN THE LENS.

Ah Bill, I do own the lens and I do know what I am talking about. So now that you've shown your stupidity and also that you can't tell the difference between a D lens and a G lens.. maybe you should follow your own advice. Now, I'm sorry for any misunderstanding (yours or mine) but the information I offered was correct for a 1.8 "D" lens. And, I think 15 years of working for Nikon gives me a little experience with their equipment. Not to mention that I have been doing photography in film (Nikon, Hassleblad, Miranda, Honeywell Pentax) and others in both film and digital. So, there was no need for you to be abusive.

Among other things.

Thanks for your attention to detail Steve. Other than providing the same "Distance" information that a 'D' lens provides to the camera... what did I, and the Nikon support resource site, fail to mention about a "gelded" lens? :)

Do you have the f1.8G?

No, I don't have the any G lens but one (a Nikon 18-70mm f3.5-f4.5 kit lens from my old D200). I like using D or non G lens which has the aperture ring that I can directly controlling my aperture setting using on my Df, no button to push, just turn the ring.

The image I supplied was my D7000 and 50mm AF 1.8d. It refused to autofocus or release shutter with the aperture ring not set at f/22 and error code FEE displayed... Perhaps there is a slight difference between the models.

I think so! I'm glad you find your problem!

I don't own nor use D7000, But My 50mm f1.8 AF does focus on my D200 and Df with out locking the focus ring at f22, they only show the "fEE" error and the shutter will not operate. The aperture ring doesn't do anything with AF. (may be only on my Df and D200 not the Dxxx)
I am doing this test right now and it works on both of my camera.

I have to correct my own statement:(My 50mm f1.8 AF lens does focus on my D200 and Df with out locking the aperture ring, not "focus ring" at f22,....
I apologize!

Interesting, then why does mine have a switch?

D lenses have an aperture ring and no switch. G lenses are the opposite.

Follow Flip's advice. Slide small lock/unlock button with red dot on the aperture dial and turn aperture to 22(yellow number). Lock aperture dial. That lens and your D7000 should work perfectly.

My new Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D lens arrived today and it will not auto focus. The camera seems to work fine as my other two lens's focus with no problem. I have an 18-140 and a 60mm. Does this sound like a faulty lens or is there something I am not doing correctly. I have my camera settings all set on Auto focus. The lens seems to manual focus with no problem

Thanks

Well, Parrotman - after all these pages conflicting WAGs and assorted comments - have you resolved your focus problem?

Make sure the aperature lock is in the locked position, if all else failes check the manual.

Thanks every one for the feedback. I sent the lens back and they replaced it with another of the same and it works great. As a kudos to Amazon, I sent them an email telling them that the first lens did not work. Two days later I had the new lens and authorization to send the other one back. They replaced it without having to wait for them to get the defective lens back. I love the lens.

I have the D7000 and the same lens. It does auto focus on the D7000, but not on my D3300. It is the internal motor that is not available on the D3300. Not sure why it won't focus on the D7000. I know that is frustrating.

I guess we will never know exactly what was wrong with it.... Contacts or the chip inside...Since the new one works, it's unlikely the AF/M switch on the camera. It still could be the min aperture toggle if the replacement ln was set correctly & the one returned was not. Parrotman, did you try out any of the suggestions before returning the defective lens ?

I have this lens, and I love it. I use it on a D7100, and it auto-focuses fine. Other members have already discussed the manual switch on the camera. However, check to see if the aperture ring on this lens is locked for auto mode. There is a red "switch" on the aperture ring which should be locked to the far side (the "down" position locks it in place.) The white dot below the depth of field gauge should be over the f/22 aperture setting. Once in a while, I knock the red switch out of place and the aperture ring moves - then the lens won't auto anything. I have attached a photo. I hope this helps.
