My new Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D lens arrived today and it will not auto focus. The camera seems to work fine as my other two lens's focus with no problem. I have an 18-140 and a 60mm. Does this sound like a faulty lens or is there something I am not doing correctly. I have my camera settings all set on Auto focus. The lens seems to manual focus with no problem

Thanks

What camera are you using? The lens has no focus motor, and will autofocus only with cameras that have one in the body.

You gave very little detail about camera and other lenses.

D lenses have no focusing motor and depend on a motor in the camera. Some new cameras, usually the lower priced, don't have that motor.

I am using a Nikon 7000. I am also using a Nikon 18-140 VR and a Nikon AF 60mm. Both of which auto focus fine.

Those are not D lenses. Does your camera have a focusing motor? All AF-s lenses have the motor in the lens.

The lens AF should work with the D7000. It's possible that you could have a problem with the lens or with your camera (if connected correctly and the camera's AF setting is on). If your working 60mm is the AF model and not the AF-s model then the problem is likely with the new lens.

does the D7000 have an in body focus motor?
Does the lens require one?

Your 50mm f1.8D is the least expensive lens in its inventory. It does not automatically focus on cameras that are the D5500 or below series. These cameras don't have the internal body motors to focus the lens. The D7000 series have such motors. Perhaps you may want to pay a little more and get the AF-S lens. Otherwise you will only be able to manual focus, which isn't all bad.

The OP has an AF-D lens and a D7000, the lens should auto-focus with that camera.

That lens should definitely auto-focus with a D7000. Do you have the aperture ring on the lens set to f/22? If not...try that.

You are correct. I missed his message when he said he had a D7000.

Make sure AF is turned to the on position on your camera. If it is turned off, you lens camera / lens are in manual mode.

Please check your controls on the lens. Make sure your switch for manual and auto focus is switched to auto focus and not manual focus.

Its an AF lens not the motorized version so there is no switch on the lens
