New data from a variety of government sources demonstrates that the gains in insurance coverage since Obamacare was fully implemented are more a result of the law, than economic recovery.

Under ‘‘Obamacare,’’ the share of Americans without health insurance has dropped to a historic low of about 9 percent, with room to go even lower. But even as the economy has expanded, major government surveys point to a lackluster rebound for employer-based coverage.
‘‘It’s very clear that the Affordable Care Act has done most of the work in decreasing the number of uninsured,’’ said economist Robert Kaestner of the University of Illinois Chicago.
For example, the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey found about 3 million gained employer coverage between 2010 and 2014, but the number of uninsured dropped by 10 million, with the strongest gains coming from Medicaid coverage. Additionally, the National Health Interview Survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified essentially flat employer coverage in the four-year period, with 12.6 million more people with health insurance. Finally, the Census Bureau's Current Population Survey "found no statistically significant change in the number of people covered by employers from 2013 to 2014," but identified 9 million no longer uninsured.

That means that a lot of people got coverage from Obamacare. It didn't ruin the economy, and it didn't kill jobs. Go figure. Obamacare has already faded as a campaign issue in this ridiculous campaign season, and for good reason. It's working. People like it. Republicans have absolutely no clue what to do to replace. It's time to stop talking about repealing it and time to talk about improving it.

It also got rid of a ton of trash policies. Policies that you paid into but didn't really cover anything if you actually got sick.

And I wonder what those stats would look like if it were truly optional instead of mandatory or else suffer a penalty. Hey I could mandate buying a load of manure every six month an sell that idea if I attached a penalty if you didn't comply.

So if you opted out of health insurance, and get run over by a bus breaking your arm 2 ribs lacerating your spleen and cracking your femur bone putting you in the hospital for 3 weeks- figure that kind of damage and treatment will set you back 350k- Who is going to pay your medical bills?

Your response is a load of manure. You must not understand how insurance works in spreading risk.

Yeah, I guess I don't. As a retired health insurance agent selling for 36 years I'm void of any knowledge on the subject. Poor me!

The main problem is the tax for not having insurance. The supreme court appeoved the law because the Congress has the right to tax. But the ACA tax sets up very dangerous precedent. It gives congress permission to tax a non-activity. The court gave congress the power to tax any damn thing it wants and for any reason. Don'y buy an american made car- pay a tax of $5,000. Congress now has that power.

You poor parasite. You know damn well Obummercare was about control and had nothing to do with insurance. More people lost coverage as well as their job than those that were uninsured in the first place. The cost for the botched website alone was more than what it would have cost to cover the uninsured.
You know damn well there wasn't going to be any savings for anyone. You know damn well his plan was to force it into a single payer system.
Don't you dare say it was a good deal. If it was you wouldn't have had to become a lawyer instead of staying in insurance.
Shame on you poor poor parasite.

Costs reasonable you need to get out more. Surely you jest. Sit out on the curb and wait for me and I'll be along so we can discuss this.

I was waiting for some useful information you thought you had from being an insurance salesman. Guess nothing's there, eh?

Don't you hate it when you try to be a know-it-all, then someone puts you to the task. And you sputter and stutter, and change the subject.

Yes. Health care costs in America are high. Pay for service system encourages over treatment. And check out the profits of the drug companies, which spend more in advertising than R&D.

Plus, check out the Hospitals' cost sheet:

At White Plains Hospital, for example, one patient's bill showed a $91 charge for a unit of saline solution that cost the hospital 86 cents, according to the Times. Another bill included $546 for six liters of saline that cost the same hospital $5.16.*

Saline is salt water, BTW.

Oh, I forgot. The high cost of medical care is totally caused by the ACA, at least according to you trolls.

Insurance Companies are not your friends. I represented them for 38 years. Lie, cheat and steal- their motto. Take premiums-yes. Pay claims-not so much.

I would like to see true stats how much did it cost the govt. individual employers.
We ultimately pay for the uninsured one way or another.
