very little difference but the color brings out the birds detail. Look at the beek.

Color. The greenish color, even though subtle, creates a lot of depth for me and the yellow differentiates the beak nicely from the background vegetation.
All of this makes the bird stand out much better, IMO.

How about a compromise
I quickly (not pin-point editing) edited the photo to capture the bird in color for the black and white background.
