Beautiful image. I go to Wakodahatchee often, since I live in Delray, but have not captured a Green Heron as good as this image. Well done!

Nice shot. Like gwr I first noticed the feet wrapped around the branch. I then noticed a seemingly angry look on the bird's face.

As an aside! This years problem with few birds at Wakodahatchee stem from a windstorm with 50-60 mph gusts that came through Wakodahatchee with the first strong cold front last month. It destroyed many of the nests and killed most of the young chicks that were in them. The Preserve simply hasn't come back. We can hope for future recovery.

Shot this at Wakodahatchee (FL) yesterday - a clean shot of a Green Heron in good light.

1/500, f5.6, ISO 640 Sony A77II and Sigma 100-300 f4 with 1.5X CIZ = 450mm, full frame ( no crop) from bodypod.

The birds and activity for this time of year here is very disappointing !

I did get to see my first Canon 200-400 1.4X lens in the flesh ! I thought it was a 600 f4 at first - it is that BIG - and- of course was mounted on a gimbal/tripod. It gave me great comfort to realize my little Sigma 100-300 f4 with CIZ compares favorably ( IMO):

Canon 200-400 can equal 200-560mm @ f4-f5.6. Cost? = $12K

Sigma 100-300 W/ 2X CIZ can equal 100-600mm @f4. Cost? = $500.
