Great birding pics. That 3rd heron, after the Roseatte Spoonbill, is a Tricolored Heron. You had a good birding day. Enjoy Florida and the good weather.

Thanks. These birds are pretty used to people walking and driving by, so it is amazing how close they let you walk by. The tricolored herons seem a little more skittish than some of the others.

Great set! Hope you were not too close to that "gator."

Thanks! Well - maybe a little close, but thanks for a good telephoto lens! I was using my Canon 100-400mm EF lens.

Great series. Thanks for sharing. Will need to put Viera wetland on my list when I go back to the Everglades.

It is worth a visit for sure. It is not far from the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge also, as well as some other Central Florida hot spots.

It was a little cloudy yesterday afternoon, but the Viera Wetlands is always exciting. The usual suspects were there, plus a few I haven't seen in a while: Limpkins and hooded mergansers (did not get good photos of them, unfortunately).

Excellent series Steve and don't know how I missed them! I thought that I had you on my buddy list but sometimes have doubts about it, as I know that I probable receive less than 10% of Angela's topics posted, so have to check her page about every day. Anyway great Set!

Thanks so much for posting this thread. We go to the Tallahassee area in January to visit our daughter and we stay at Alligator Point so I get to visit St. Mark's refuge often. I also enjoy going to Wakula Springs where there are many species of shore birds and lots of gators. I am new to both birding and photography so I appreciate the information all of you are willing to share. Loved the photos of the birds posted.

Ok, somehow I managed to get a way from the main thread about birding in Florida so I apologize for posting my reply here :(

That's ok - it's not a rerun if you haven't seen it before! Birding in Florida is never boring!
