Hi, Dave,
The street impact , for me, is the standing, hangin-on riders who I really didn't notice until I say the download image.
it's very dark...too dark?
ok...midnight! but maybe just a touch more light on the near side of the car?

It's midnight Dave !!! Isn't it suppose to be dark? LOL !!!
I'll work on it and repost later. Thanks
Dave
Love the mood of this one.
Brightness looks about right on my monitor.
The photo is pretty dark, but the people can be seen much easier in the download. Maybe lighten it just a touch? But certainly not enough to kill the mood.
If it was mine I would lighten it but its not so if your happy my man leave it and just please yaself.
Makes for a less complicated life all round I find!!!
Nice shot light or dark.

I looked at this a long time. I had some different thoughts for a couple of renditions. Then I backed off and looked again. While I like the subject and composition overall, the lighting is just not working for me. I am fighting what my eyes see and what my brain knows. No rays from anywhere for the illumination of the people. I also feel the rays that are there have a bit of a muddy appearance, maybe some added clarity could help. Im not sure exactly but to me the image is more on the grey side and I would prefer a more stark look. Most of what I have said is personal preference other than the brain part.

I also considered this for quite a while, and I too have come to the conclusion that
something isn't working, but I'm not sure what. It's a classic cable car in classic San Francisco fog (we lived and worked in Oakland across the Bay for 30 years). I basically love the shot! I love the headlight limning the fog. I know it's dark, and supposed to be dark, but... :? You said you might tinker with it more. That's what I'd do if I'd made it. I think there's a terrific picture here!
Everyone has valid points which I consider to be good. I feel this a good exercise for me and to others as well. I am working to correct these issues, if I can to some degree. If anyone would like to join in and make an attempt to come up with their own version I will be happy to post the original fie. Please note, I really appreciate the feedback as it forces me to strive to become better at details such as lighting, direction of lighting, shadows, exposure, etc. Thanks again, I shall return !!!

I lived in the Bay Area for 10 years, so I remember these cable cars very well! ("street car" is a different animal)
I guess I'm with the other folks regarding the amount of darkness. Would be very interested in seeing other renditions.

I could always use some practice.
I have attached the original file. I'm excited to see other versions and hopefully we all can learn something new. Have fun.

Whoa! Holy poop! You shot "day for night!" I was NOT expecting that! That puts a whole 'nother spin on the thing! I thought you were out there in the fog at midnight on a tripod &c! This makes the original version a pure triumph because it sure fooled me! You put in the fog, and the headlight, and the street light--- Oh, boy, I sure can't do that!

Thanks Chuck !!! I just love your comments. I know it puts a whole different perspective on things but give it try. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Thanks Dave, but I honestly not only don't think I can do it, I really don't want to spend the time on it. What you've done takes skill I don't even want to acquire. I consider myself a documentary photographer. As discussed elsewhere I have no qualms about moving an errant seagull where he should'a been, but what you've done is really graphic art. If I really wanted to do it I probably could learn it, but jeepers I don't even know where I'd start, especially with something like the headlight in the fog. That's really masterful and I don't know how you did it. But I know there are plenty of folks here who will take up the challenge!
