Any reason as to why you chose to have your subject exactly in the middle in each and every one of these images? The rule of 3rd would have make these a bit more interesting from a compositional point of view.

I live near woods and never lured a Pileated Woodpecker to my feeder. I suspect woods are not deep or dense enough. Nice shot.

He is following a rule of thirds. He chooses to put his subject in the center third.

You are assuming that everybody knows the rule of thirds. While I don't disagree with your compositional suggestion, maybe an explanation for the OP would have been helpful.

I can not offer any explanation since he did not explain more about his compositional choices in them. I can not assume he does not know anything about the rule of thirds without any explanation from him. Honestly though, anyone in this hobby, if it is been taken seriously, should have at least heard or know about the rule of the thirds.

These photos were posted in a previous listing (Snow Birds). A visitor to that listing suggested that I post closer crops of my photos. I quickly did as was suggested not giving any though to artistic presentation. I will keep it in mind for future crop requests. Thanks for opining.

Yeah I've chased them around my hollow, but they're very cagey. Most of the time the shots are too distant. With the storm moving in to the Mid-Atlantic he was a little too hungry to be as cautious as usual. I Heard him calling for about 10 minutes straight which allowed me to find him in my hollow. The blowing snow was playing hell with my ai-servo focusing though. They could have been sharper. Thanks for viewing TPharm!

Nice shots. If you are wanting better luck at getting the Pileated's to come feed in your yard if you're willing to do homemade suet that will be your best of luck if you already know they are living close to you. Then once they visit a couple times and try the suet and know you have it they will keep coming 'cause they love it. If you are in any of the Facebook birding groups I have my homemade suet recipe posted under the files in those groups. What I would recommend for you first though if you think you would want to make is start to wash and save your store bought containers now and when there are sales on the store bought suet like around President's Day stock up and keep washing and saving the square containers. The plastic cracks on you over time. If you tell me you are I would also give you tips on how to save money on suet supplies. It's also posted in the FB Groups.

Nice images!!!
However a portrait format would be more pleasing and allow for better composition.
