Just curious.... how many of you shoot Pentax cameras?

MT - you usually have your finger on the pulse of the industry, but this post puzzles me and may lead others to discount Pentax. I believe that Pentax uses Precision Camera for both in and out of warranty repairs. While this is not a Ricoh-owned service center, it is nonetheless their USA warranty facility. I do remember that starting back when Honeywell was the US distributor most repairs were handled in-house in Colorado. It might be nice to see this setup again, but I don't know whether it would make financial sense.
Some time after the acquisition of the Pentax brand by Ricoh, they transitioned warranty and other repairs from Cris to Precision. This transition did not go as well as one would hope and caused many complaints regarding responsiveness and repair turnaround. Those issues seem to be resolved, but have probably left a bad taste in people's mouths, including potential dealers.
Note that I have no connection with Ricoh other than as a long time Pentax owner.

lsimpkins....You hit the nail on the head...!!!!! I had an issue early last year when I downloaded a firmware upgrade for my K7 and it took out the main board. Advised to send the camera to Precision....a long story later I now shoot a K3...as the repair cost to the K7 out weighed the value....my point in writing is to say that dealing with Precision was not fun...actually the worst customer service ever!!!! Compared to dealing with C.R.I.S. and a great camera shop in my state....Advanced Camera (the best) they need a top notch customer service.....MT is correct ....!!!!! I have shot Pentax since 1973 and have had several models over the years and felt unsupported as a longtime customer having to deal with Precision Camera....J3
I shoot two brands, one of which is a pentax 645d.
Shot Pentax for the last 40+ years have a K10D and a K50 that I use daily, also have a ME. love them!
That is really disappointing to hear. I'm impressed that you stuck with Pentax nevertheless though. How's the K3?
Wow.... I'm surprised at how many of us Hogs actually shoot with Pentax cameras! And I was feeling so lonely!
Just for S&G's, what are your favorite Pentax lenses? Let's not include third-party lenses at this point.... just Pentax-branded lenses.
I'll go first. SMC Pentax-FA 50mm f:2.8 macro, SMC Pentax-FA 100mm f:2.8 macro, SMC Pentax-DA L 55-300mm, and believe it or not, my SMC Pentax-DA L 18-55mm WR.
The little 18-55mm "kit lens" zoom has proven to be one of the non-macro lenses I own, bar none.
Notice that all of these are auto-focus lenses. Manual focus? Well, I'll leave that for another discussion, but there are some remarkable bargains that are stellar performers. You Pentaxians know what I'm talking about.
I agree about the kit lens. Other than that (and a 3rd party zoom) I adore my 77mm prime and otherwise use my old manual lenses, of which I have quite a few and that are really impressive, sometimes dreamy (some more than others).
My Pentax K1000 and my Oly film camera are strictly bookends these days. I had a Pentax K-x. Piece of crap.
Currently use Canon and my newest love - Sony a6000.
I love the 12-24mm f4 wide angle lens. Very sharp, little distortion, great color and contrast-never lets me down. The 200 mm f 2.8 images almost look 3 dimensional, very sharp too and when it locks focus you can bet that it is in focus.
Pentax my choice for over 40 years currently using K50
I shoot Pentax with my K50. I superb camera even with the kit lens. For more distant work I use the Tamron 70-300, which gives me the range of my bridge camera (almost)
In the film world, I happily used a Minolta xd-11. When it came time to go digital, I quickly lost patience with Sony's fumbling efforts to come up with something decent that would take my Minolta lenses; so I researched all the dslr brands then available (Nikon, Canon, Olympus, etc.) and decided on the Pentax (100d) for these reasons: price, in-body stablization, lens compatibility, good 3rd party lens choice, and price (did I mention price?)
Since then, I've progressed up the line from K100d, to K10d (actually Samsung Gx-10 -- totally wonderful camera, BTW, which I still have), K-30, K-5iis. The only dud was the K-30, which had persistent aperture control problems. By the time I ran out of warranty (and patience), it was easier (and cheaper) to jump to the K-5 iis.
I now use a K-S2, because it's the one Pentax model that has an articulating lcd monitor and I don't like getting down on the ground any more. So, after all these years, I find myself using the "entry level" camera again -- and loving it!

Before any of you go off on me, I'm NOT trying to start a conflict as to which is better. I'm just curious to find out how many share my experienced with the brand and what particular models they use.
I'm always amused at how vociferous many who shoot "OTHER" brands become when they get even a slight hint that there's a perceived slam against their favorite. Chill, my brothers and sisters. That's not what this is about. ;)
I shot Pentax 35mm SF1 and SF1n then the istD my first digital.
My only problems with The Pentax was limited availability of after market lens, accessories and the cost of the pentax digital bodies.
I dropped broke my istD while it was being repaired I switched to a D70 Nikon and have never thought of going back.

O.K. I'll go next...I love my Pentax 35mm prime/Macro. A real winner. And then there's my 77mm, that's just great. Have not had a lot of time with my new 150-450mm tele, for FF. So many of my Pentax lenses make me proud to be a PENTAXIAN.. Oh!!! The money I've saved by dropping out of the "OTHER" clubs. RJM. So many Pentax lenses have the MAGIC!!!

Well, the one I use most often is my walk-around -- Pentax DA 18-135mm. If I need something faster, out comes my Pentax 31mm F/1.8 FA Limited and I start using my feet.

I have a Pentax K1000 with the brown leatherette body. My 1st SLR was a Pentax K1000 with the black covering.
I also have the auto 110 and 3 lenses for it.
Have the Pentax Q which is a fantastic little P&S camera.
Plus have a bunch of K mount lenses that I use on my other brands of digital cameras with adapters.
Maybe soon I will get a Pentax DSLR.
will
