Before any of you go off on me, I'm NOT trying to start a conflict as to which is better. I'm just curious to find out how many share my experienced with the brand and what particular models they use.

I'm always amused at how vociferous many who shoot "OTHER" brands become when they get even a slight hint that there's a perceived slam against their favorite. Chill, my brothers and sisters. That's not what this is about. ;)

In digital I shoot Canon (5DMII,5DMIII), in film I shoot Canon and Pentax (EOS1v, Pentax 645nII).

I've been using Pentax my whole life. I can't imagine using anything else!

I am using Pentax K3, had a K10, which took a tumble, my fault. Have a K50 as a backup. Started in the seventies with a Honeywell Pentax. Have Canon and Olympus point and shoots, Olympus waterproof for kayaking. Have tried others and just like the feel of the Pentax.

Back in the late 60's, when I was in the Navy, the photolab furnished us with Nikons, mostly because they were as rugged as an anvil! I bought my first Pentax, a Spotmatic, due to the TTL metering system. Like Nitro Phil, I've never seen a need to change.

Those poor Nikons went through hell, mostly due to "lack of pride of ownership." Uncle Sam provided them and the photographers knew that if they screwed up one, there was another one ready and waiting. I'd like to think there was a method to the government's madness. Some of those Nikon bodies looked like they had been keel-hauled and yet they kept on tickin'!

I currently shoot Nikon, but I take every opportunity to point people to Pentax. I have been a Pentax fan since 1957. But for many reasons, I have since shot Linhof, Rollie, Mamiya, Canon and Nikon; and am beginning to transition to MILC and Sony's new a7000 when it appears.

Yeah, Ed.... I have two K-50's and love them. I also have a K-x and a K10D, but usually keep one of the K-50's loaded with a Tamron 28-200mm lens. I considered a K-3, but at some point, my limited budget has to figure into the equation. I seldom print anything larger than 8"x10" and 16 MP has never been a problem. Now, it I made my living with my cameras, I might reconsider.

I have an Olympus P&S that is superb.... and the editing program that came with it is just about the ONLY editing program I use. Go ahead an laugh, but unless you've tried it, you don't know what you're laughing about!

I have a couple of Pentax K-1000 cameras, which I occasionally use. The shooting conditions tend to be the determining factor regarding using them or my other cameras.

I got invited to "South-east Asia" back in 1968. I visited the area for a little over a year. In that time, I had opportunities to see, handle, and use, all (MOST of) the fine SLRs of the time. I was most impressed with the Pentax spotmatic and the company's lenses, and since I was a military visitor there, I was able to get extremely good deals on any camera purchases I would choose. Back home, people were sending me requests to get them a great deal on great cameras. Only a few of those requests were for PENTAX, everyone thought they knew then what so many"THINK THEY KNOW NOW" That canikon was/is the absolute best. I did not agree, and I was very happy with my choice of camera and lenses. Later on, my younger brother, as a NAVY photographer, reccommended to me to always "GO Canon". When he died as a result of a helicopter crash(he was piloting) I inherited his canons. I sold my pentax to a sailing buddy, and missed it ever since. Ultimately, after years, those CANONS died, and parts were not readily available to me, so I bought an EOS-30-D, that i liked very much. My only problem with Canon was, to get their best lenses, the prices were outlandish, I thought. After buying 3rd party lenses for that mount, I was not happy with photo-quality. I gave my son all of my camera gear and bought what I thought was a swell idea, A pentax K-01, I was thinking "SMALLER" and mirror-less. What a great idea.....BUT, the k-01 was a very good digital camera, it wasn't small and it wasn't "ALL-THAT"... But, it could use any lense pentax ever made for their k-mount. That's everything since about 1970 on. So I got a few of the legacy lenses, and started having a great time. The glass was the thing, and the cost was always live-able & beautiful. I bought a K-5, and loved it.. I kept buying lenses, new pentax mostly, and when pentax brought out the K-S2, i bought it too. I'm very invested in pentax again, and AT 70 years young, I'm not likely to change again. That's not to say that there isn't anything as good, or better, but that's where I am now... Were I to start over..I don't know which way I would go??....there is a lot of fantastic stuff out ther now.. Sony, samsung, olympus, panasonic, and you could lower your expectations, and go to nikonon.... Just kidding, folks. I know that this is basically a canikon forum, and I love the info available here, especially when someone mentions "PENTAX" though that "AIN'T often" Happy new year to all. RJM

Spotmatic purchased in Japan, 1969, on the local economy for a hand full of Yen. K2, ME Super, ZX7, K2000 and my current shooter a K7 and a couple of adapter rings for the old glass. The ZX7 will shoot a pan/landscape by somehow moving the film by 2 frames on a single shot.
I am running a very high GAS fever when I look at the K3 and DA 16-85 WR lens.

My granddad was in the Marines in the early '40s and had a Pentax as he was a bit of a shutterbug as well. He kept it all throughout his professional career as a Naval auditor and passed it along to me in 1979. As a sophomore in high school I shot for my school paper and yearbook. It finally died my sophomore year in college in 1982. A great camera!

Just for comparison to other 35mm DSLR's on the market, take a look at the features of the Pentax K-50. This is a camera body that can be had for UNDER $300.00. I'm certainly NOT an expert on other brands of cameras, but I don't think there's a single one on the market that is it's equal at it's price point. And, bear in mind, it will accept ANY lens Pentax EVER made! And there are boat-loads of superb third-party lenses with Pentax K mounts that can be had for pennies on the dollar.

Here's another video you might want to take a look at that demonstrates why I like Pentax!
