I have several Sigma lenses. 85mm, 50mm, 18-300mm. I also have the dock, I've never had to use it though. I hope I'm not one who can't recognize an out if focus lens.... I think my photographs look in focus.
I really like Sigma lenses, and if I never need the dock for future updates or adjustments I have it.

Just a thought - if you not made the purchase as of yet, at least look at and maybe try the new Nikon 200 - 500. I believe you said you had a D7200. It really is top notch.

I have the Sports and the Dock - well worth the $60.00.
Programs the VR - how aggressively it works, the focus speed and the, I'll call it the short focus block out for a long distance shot - this can be set for each mm of extension. The fast focus and VR can be set aggressively for hand holding.

How necessary is it to get the USB dock for a sigma lens. I'm close to getting the 150-600 contemporary and am trying to slim down the cost.

If you shoot Nikon please give the 200-500 f5.6 a look. It is a wonderful lens made by Nikon for Nikon and it will serve you well for a long time. It is not weather sealed but neither is the sigma. It will cost you a little more but it is worth it. Have been shooting it for a month and it is outstanding on my D750 with group auto focus around the center point.

Well according to one poster whose credibility is suspect, you are just "lucky". As I previously posted, he's nuts.

The USB dock is free at B+H, along with a discount. But, yes, it can wait and perhaps never needed.

Huh? Did you say..."perhaps never needed." Oh my God, catharsis. Welcome home.

Just an aside here for those who may have forgotten the concept of sample variation.....Happens with all manufacturers & is the likely reason for differing opinions.... (BTW, I own no 150-600mm lenses. My longest is a Nikkor 80-400mm )

Great word. In my 70 years of sucking air, I have never heard the word until now. I think I may use it in the future. Not.... If I ever met one of those type of people, I would just back away.

IMHO, the USB Dock is one of the best ideas in a long time. It allows for refining focus, updating lens firmware (otherwise a trip to the Mfr. is needed) as well as setting a bunch of other things. I can't wait for Nikon to announce one! As to the 150-600 Sigma Sport, it is ON SALE through 1/7 at many places including B&H. If you buy it at B&H, you will get funds back which will more than cover your cost of the dock. The current rebate is $ 200. I'd suggest you mortgage everything and order one ASAP. BTW, I do have this lens and I find it excellent. Not as good as a prime but, for the price, an outstanding value & a great lens! Best of luck!

USB dock is there for a reason. Like may other Camera features or accessories. Need depends on usage

Do you really know what "sycophant" means? If so, what
is the relevancy in this case. if any?
