I have been looking at the various models that sony has to offer and I really can't see a big difference between them except for price. $400 up to $900.
Can you clear this up for me.
thanks
There are plenty of differences ranging from lenses, to processors, to viewfinders, flash and video capability. They all take good photos and fit in your pocket.

You can compare them side by side at: snapsort.com
thanks that answered my concerns.

All of the top 3 "mirrorless" mfrs have had a fast and furious flurry of models. Olympus 4:3 has the best range of native and third party lenses, plus a range of models in the last 2 years.
However, Fujifilm and Sony both went "nuts" on fixed lens and interchangeable lens models.
Fujifilm has the widest range of models in both modes.
Sony's has a wide range of models in mostly interchangeable lenses. However, the grievance most have on Sony is a very narrow selection of lenses for the mounts on interchangeable.
My suggestion is that you won't find much in the way of answers on general information sites like the UHH site because of the broad range of various mfr models owned by most members. You may hit a specific now and then.
The best thing you can do for specifics covering comparisons is to look for a forum dedicated to the camera mfr and models you are considering.... Or a Sony E mount forum, which leaves out the A mount lens models.
You could go to:
http://www.dpreview.com/Then look across near the top of the page for "cameras" and left click there.
Then drop down the list to Sony and left click.
Then you will be presented with ALL the Sony models. At that point you can read reviews and even set up side by side comparisons.
DPreview has a fairly well received review process, and should answer your questions. DPreview also offers camera specific comments and forum style Q/A.
Try that.
Bought a used one from BH Photo and saved $160. It could have
passed for a new one but returned after 30 days as I could not get it to
take any better photos than my Canon.
Also had to go into the menu to change everything and at times the
menu was overwhelming to the fact you did not know where
you were.
I will check out Canon's new touch screens soon.
For what it's worth.

I have the RX100 II, the reason I have it is because I shoot lots of flash, this one has a hot shoe on the top. By the way, any of the RX100's have outstanding optics, take your pick.

Same answer for me. I bought the Rx100M2 when it was first available, and if I were to buy another today, I'd still get the M2 for the hot shoe and particularly the lens range, which suits my style better than the newer versions.
Recently bought the III, which was hundreds less than the IV.
Only difference was the video capabilities, which don't interest me.

The IV has a much higher resolution EVF than the III (2.4mp vs 1.4mp)
Yes, I did leave that out, but since this camera is my camera for times when I'm not out shooting with my larger stuff, but feel naked without one, the EVF is inconsequential.
Btw, I find that the EVF being reseated and automatically turning off the camera is a real pain anyway.
I never understood why Sony discontinued the hot shoe mount. For people who shoot off camera flash with a trigger it's priceless. Bad tradeoff.
I agree that the specs seem pretty similar. But there are a few significant differences.
My only contribution to this discussion is that my Model 1 has terrible battery life. I carry it as a backup in a fanny pack and the on-off button often get jiggled just enough to turn the camera on. This also drains the battery.
I find the 3X zoom lens is pretty measly, at least for me.
But overall, it takes good pictures.

I have a smaller Sony WX9, and, like the RX100, it has a small battery that doesn't last nearly as long as DSLR batteries. You can't get a gallon out of a pint container.
