Looking to update. Nikon D7200 or D7100. D7100 about $300.00 cheaper. Is it worth the difference?
If money is an issue I recommend refurb D5300. It takes same pics as the D7200 and has additional features such as tilt screen, gps, and wifi. It is significantly lighter and I much prefefer the info screen setting approach, which you can always see in the dark, over the scattered buttons and unreadable green screen of the D7xxx.
Actually I prefer it even if it cost the same or more.
I'd only recommend D7xxx if you have a bunch of non-AFS lenses or are really into multiple flashes and need the CLS. Note you can work a single iTTL flash off camera with the D5300.

After comparing specs, the only relevant question is whether it's worth it
for you.
I concur with Jerry. Refurb D7100 was going for $499 before Christmas. Use the even more extra cash on better glass. Note that this is coming from a happy D7200 owner. You can always get a D7200 down the road when the price drops because its rumored replacement FINALLY comes out...
You should get the same price from Cameta plus their one-year warranty extension free.

Yeah, there goes the value of my used D7100 down the toilet again. :hunf:

The value, OJ, is to you. It's a great crop camera, and you should always have a crop camera. :D

Yup. That was somewhat tongue in cheek. I have two full frame Nikons but the D7100 is still a great camera and with its 24 MP and extended reach, it's a keeper.
The D7100 has continuous video focusing. The D7200 has: more dynamic range, better light sensitivity, and less noise at higher ISOs. Only YOU can say what any of that is worth to you.

7200 does have wifi...but I never use it. Basically the buffer is the reason I purchased the 7200. If you don't need the differences get the 7100 and a prime lens. I can really tell the difference with my 7200 and a prime on it.

The D7200 does not have any of that! At least not in a significant amount, nor does the D7100.
