Click the download click,+ 1 time scroll left and then scroll up till there is just enough ground showing to plant the house and trees. Now you have "Approaching Storm" The original photo is a "Farm". Very few pictures work with a 50/50 split. If you start taking photos of what the interest point is, your wife might ask for her own DSLR. PS you might want to just let her think her pics are better, just to keep the piece in the house

Kind of like this. Much more dramatic.

Very good. Wonder what you could have done with an original RAW file?

Three good examples of the quality of the camera does not make much difference. The two landscapes were shot with Nikon cameras and film and the butterfly was shot with my IPod. All three are acceptable to me.

Big sky picture works for several reasons. Dramatic cloud formation. Leading line in center. Buildings on either side acting like a frame in the foreground, and also producing foreground interest. Black and white often does more justice to such a picture, as here.

Not all big sky pictures work, but they can depending on other elements and their relation in the frame. The eye naturally finds such pictures appealing.

Although your DSLR certainly gives you more flexibility over the phone camera, it cannot also promise greater artistic vision.

Btw, did you notice the Triceratops in the pic? No kidding - located between the two trees on the left side!

I hear they eat a lot of grass. Probably why they are raising it on a farm.

Technically I think I can become fairly competent, Artistic vision is much much harder.

This is a good forum for technical help and insight. I wish I could find one as good for artistic vision. Maybe i'm looking at the wrong sections.

If you're interested in taking your photography beyond documentary, you have to work on getting out of your head and into your heart (emotions). Right brain vs. left brain!

Female brain versus male brain too... Get in touch with your creative female side and all that stuff... That's not Bruce Genner-speak.

A photographer who succeeds in producing worthy photographs has developed his visual sense to serve and amplify his artistic leaning.

His artistic output reflects an integration of his intellect with all his capacities. He taps his well of creativity here for a synergy.

In turn, he becomes one with his art, and so fulfills himself.

So one must be female, or be in touch with one's female brain in order to be artistic ????

Michelangelo, Monet, Picasso, DaVinci, Rembrant, Raphael, Cezanne, Van Gogh......

They didn't get that memo.

Methinks you are confusing right-left brain thinking with male and female genders.

For those who want to develop their artistic understanding, start with the above. Study their works. View the works in person if at all possible.

Viewing their works tells you what side of the brain they were using? Did you talk to any of those artists, or their psychologists, about whether they were using the creative female side of their brains while painting?

I'm not sure if you are misinterpreting "female side of the brain" and think I mean they were gay or what. Emotional sensitivity, ability to love and nurture, parental instincts, creativity, musical motor skills whether creative or just playing what has already been written, and much more come from the same side of the brain and females are far superior in these areas than most of us Neanderthal male side of the brain people.

If that offends your machismo studliness for some reason, that's too bad, but I personally put great effort into exercising the female side of my brain in several different fields of creativity. I lack nothing from the logical, mechanically-inclined, visual stimuli based, aggressive, decision-making, methodical male brain side but choose to compliment it with other traits that make me a better well-rounded personality.
