Win 10 demystified

In case you installed Win 10 and are having a few issues or are getting ready to install, you may find the link (below) helpful. There has been some "maligning" of Microsoft and the "evils of Win 10". I feel most of it is misdirected. Many of the complaints, due to tech issues with the installation, can be solved with a few simple steps.

I realize it is a matter of preference and opinion, but I think Win 10 is a home run.

Before giving up the ship, you may find the answer(s) here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/support

Good luck,
Mark

It clogged things up and locked me out. I had to hire a password cracker to get back in. I stick with 8.1

Me too. I upgraded two computers and my wife bought a new one. They all have Win 10 and there were no glitches.

I agree that Windows 10 is a home run. I upgraded one of my laptops from Windows 7 to Windows 10. No problems and I really like Windows 10. One of the tricks to a smooth upgrade is to make sure that your old operating system is completely up to date before starting the Windows 10 upgrade.

One laptop and one desktop (both HP) updated the first day and never an issue. I think in part the companies like HP who, if you checked their sight ahead of time, had a couple of updates to prepare their computers for win 10, made the transition easier.

A neighbor of mine who is barely computer literate, followed some instructions that Toshiba had emailed, and updated to Win 10 with no issues. When I saw his phone number pop I was ready to go bail him out, but when he said ... "guess what, I did it", I knew win 10 was a home run.

I agree that over all it's a very good OS and I am happy I installed it. However, (there are always howevers) there are a few glitches that haven't been corrected yet. The one that bothers me me the most is when restarting W10 you have to re-do settings (like the mouse settings). These problems are not an indication of the overall performance though and I'm sure they will be corrected. eventually.

Went from Vista to a new computer with 8.1 earlier this year and then just did the free upgrade to 10 a few weeks ago. No problems with anything. I miss the layout of XP, which I used for years, but I'm having no real problem finding my way around 10. Everything works at least as good as with any previous system.

A home run? For MS? Definitively since I see posts like this one.

For the non-informed user? I happen to think differently and been watching the info on privacy as it comes out...

That thing passes its time spying on you EVEN when you use the privacy settings.

To make things worse, you think these settings once selected are permanent... Big mistake, MS changes some of them when you update your system.

So, a 10? With lots of makeup, fake boobs.. err 'features' too much lipstick, and other nips and tucks you get something that looks half decent from afar and from close-up...

EEEEEECHHH!!!!!! (Running away in the other direction... Also occupied my MS.)

So what to do, what to do? Follow the link in one of my threads, learn how to protect yourself and actually do what the brit guy says...

Link

The other link was given about a week earlier by a UHH user. His software referral was beneficial (it spotted a couple of things I was not aware of and no other software flagged them). My HOST file grew about 130 lines ~web sites~ many of them also listed by the software used by the UK guy...

So 10? Naw, -10 since it is winter in some area.

Just curious. Have you installed it or is your experience restricted to reading about it?

Thanks,
Mark

I was well aware of the security links but not to THAT extent. I am now using all that he says plus a few others discovered along the way.

This is why I keep an eye out on Win 10 security issues.

Off topic
My use of the HOST file had started long ago to fight back against 'software call back' like ACDSee. It is about a mile long and covers anything from 'legitimate' software control to porn to spammer.

I wish I could find something like my once best firewall (tiny firewall) but the company has abandoned some of its features. You could block sites by using wildcards or domain root...

ah, oh, yes, I use Windows 10 in all but one PC (does not need it, just connected to a tv to watch netflix).... (I am also an over qualified windows user.. MSCE and all that crap.)

Not withstanding your "spying" critique, (I personally don't worry about MS knowing websites I visit) I do feel the OS is a home run. My post was only to alert those who have had difficulty with installation, to some links that may help find solutions to the issues.

I does much more than know what you visit. Watch the video. It reports your activity on your PC!!! (file open, edited ~ how ~, saved).

I am not of the paranoid kind but here this is justified.

When I installed Win 10, I did customize my privacy settings. I use Cortana frequently - I really l like and use it. I do not use Windows Mail. I've been using Spybot for 7 - 8 years, I also run Malware Bytes. I downloaded Beacon 1.5 - looks good. I set to Immunize. I'll have to monitor how my PC responds to that.

Thanks for your response.
