I migrated from windows seven as well. I found a number of programs that would not work with windows 10 but only realized which ones after the upgrade. There are other programs that have developed problems that were not there before. That being said, the reality is that many of these old programs will eventually have drivers and software that will work with windows 10. What I worry about is that I will have difficulty doing a clean install of those programs or updating the original programs. Keep in mind that you can try windows 10 and then roll back to Windows 7 if you encounter problems. The only danger is that during the upgrade, there are some programs and features of Windows 7 that will be lost. Even if you roll back to Windows 7, you'll have to reinstall the programs that were deleted during the upgrade. The other thing I would recommend on those programs that you have the most concerned about, is doing some online research to see if they're compatible with windows 10. I've had windows 10 on my computer for several weeks now and I'm still dealing with problems. They are not insurmountable but it's frustrating to have to use workarounds to correct some issues because Microsoft has yet to address them. Nonetheless, I'm committed to staying with windows 10 as there are some features unique to that operating system that I like. My final recommendation would be to do the upgrade only when you have time to spend with your computer and go through the installation slowly and do research prior to the installation.

Thank you. Sounds to me like I'll be staying with W7. I appreciate the answer. Good luck with W10

I've been the definition of stupid...trying something time and again and expecting a different result.

Stupid me, thinking that installing a Microsoft product (W10) on a Microsoft device (Surface Pro 3) would be a snap.

So I try, get an error message, try again and learn that for each try, the software has to be re-downloaded. Time. How completely stupid is that!! More time, then doing the upgrade. In all, more than an hour for each failure. Stupid me...trying six times.

I web search the error message and get to the page you refer to. No help at all. Shut down my machine and try again.

I've spent more than six hours trying to download the OS. Finally took it to the MS store. I need an appointment. Will have to leave my machine because it takes them more than an hour to find out the problem.

When wondering out loud to them whether an MS product should load on an MS product, they only say certainly. But when I was there, the rep was working six machines that were having problems. She actually admitted that and showed me the devices.

I decided to skip the "upgrade."

So, bottom line, the demystifying is mystifying.

In case you installed Win 10 and are having a few issues or are getting ready to install, you may find the link (below) helpful. There has been some "maligning" of Microsoft and the "evils of Win 10". I feel most of it is misdirected. Many of the complaints, due to tech issues with the installation, can be solved with a few simple steps.

I realize it is a matter of preference and opinion, but I think Win 10 is a home run.

Before giving up the ship, you may find the answer(s) here:

Good luck,

What does this even mean? And how are you kicking my butt? I am amazed by people such as you who continue to have nothing good to say about Microsoft yet continue to use their products. Do you not understand changing to a different operating system will eliminate all your Windows problems? Perhaps you are the one with their head in the sand.

You do not know how to read for starter...

Windows 10 good? Yes, never said otherwise.

MS Windows 10 is spying in ways no one really imagined before being exposed? THAT I point out.

That you decide is not important is your prerogative, you are welcomed to it. Where you are wrong is when you try to hide this under the carpet and trying to force other to accept something that is s***ty behavior from a company has no business finding out what I use within my computer.

The rest is pure BS.

Use that figuratively, this is internet, remember? And it is not your 'specific butt' by the way.

Folks, like you (since you want to be really included) are the ones who accept anything and do not see the implications. "It works? That is all I want to know."

Well, this is how we all get screwed. It works, fine, what else is going on?

I can extend that to electric cars... Non polluting they says. Riiiiight.

To create the battery array more pollutants are needed than with a single one. Right? Well that would not be a problem IF and only IF these battery arrays were efficient. They are not. They (and I am talking about the best here) are only capable of retaining 15% of the power applied to them. This power come from??? Oh, yeah electric generators that, well pollute at 100% for a gain of 15% (even less considering other factors like mechanical friction, heat and useless 'comfort' offered to the 'eco-drivers').

So, learning the system and how it works is an eye opening. Electric cars are not for me as long as the pollution is not really addressed and a cosmetic patch.

To go back to the main subject... Knowing what MS does raises many red flags but then again, what do you care you see only the 'pretty' aspect of it.

As I said, folks like you are the easiest to fleece as they (you) keep their head in the sand, an easy target.

THINK man, THINK.

Went from Vista to a new computer with 8.1 earlier this year and then just did the free upgrade to 10 a few weeks ago. No problems with anything. I miss the layout of XP, which I used for years, but I'm having no real problem finding my way around 10. Everything works at least as good as with any previous system.

Try StartFinity (www.winability.com/startfinity/) It returns the familiar start button to Windows 10/8.1. I love it. Its $9.95 for one computer or $19.95 for three computers.

You can always Clone the Win 7 drive before you upgrade to Win 10. That you won't have to rely on Win 10 rollback to Win 7.

So let me ask you a question. After installing W10 did you find any of your old programs that wouldn't run? I'm specifically concerned about my video editors that I currently run with W7.

Jim, I upgraded to W10 from W7 on my Acer laptop. As I said in my earlier post, I had my IT tech son-in-law do it for me. Aside from the error messages about driver comparability, all of my programs seem to work just fine. I am using Adobe CC for Photoshop and Lightroom, so those are the most recent versions, but my MS Office 2011 is not giving me any problems. I'm guessing that the more recent updates have ironed out any compatability issues.

How am I, "...trying to force others to accept something..."? As I said, you make no sense.

You are really off the rails aren't you? How did you go from hating Microsoft Windows 10 to electric cars? You know nothing about me except what you have guessed from my few posts yet you seem to all about "folks like" me. You make statements about me which are baseless other than your rambling thoughts which make less and less sense as you continue to ramble on. If nothing else you are entertaining.
