They can't be so confident if they only give a 1 year guarantee for a $5750 lens!
Tamron give a 6 year guarantee with their 24-70mm f/2.8 DI VC USD Lens at only $1300.

Really? Canon doesn't give more than a one year warranty on ANY lens, no matter how rediculously expensive it may be.

In all the years I used mt Schneider lenses, they never failed after 10 years of wedding photography. I would do a Clen,Lube and Adjust every 3 years. They were mechanical lenses.

It is a 3 pound lens with a 14 blade aperture, and a front element that is 100 mm across. It is a whopping piece of glass. A lens element 100 mm across that is going to be sharp and give an image evenly illuminated edge to edge is expensive to make. It also lets you swap mounts.

So - it still proves that Tamron appear to have more confidence in their build than the others!
Incidentally, Nikon generally appear to also only give 1 year with 2 years on some lens.

Nikons lens warranty is 5 years, across the entire Nikkor lens line. Tamron does have the longest, most comprehensive lens warranty in the industry, while Canon has the shortest, bar none.
This info is based on USA warranties and may be different in other countries.

Amazing! At this size, this lens resembles those massive ones made for view cameras. Schneider is making them now for digital. One may wonder whether it is possible to reuse the old ones on the best digital equipment (?).

Tamron is confident....

that their users are MUCH less likely to be as demanding or to use a lens as hard as the video types who would buy this lens.

The quick check I did on suppliers here in the UK returned only 1 - 2 years!

However, you have deviated from my original point as well as emphasized it - if Nikon or a third party lens maker can offer 5 years or more then I would expect more than 1 year for a near $6000 lens!

You obviously have not been reading this thread carefully. Regular DSLR lenses and video lenses are different beasts. The rules for one do not apply to the other.

All of those have their place--but, unless you need it, remember a piece of photographic paper can only accept about 250 lines per inch regardless of what you throw at it.

Expensive? The Canon 1200mm goes for $180,000. That's right 180 thousand. THATS expensive.

Does that include a trip to Japan for a factory tour?

Once more, it's not the photographic paper. It can "accept" a lot more resolution than that.

Normal eyesight cannot distinguish more than about 300 dpi at 10 inches (25 cm) from the print surface.

If you use a magnifying glass, you can see much more resolution in both a gelatin or a digital print.

I will point out that the price of an item has little to do with the quality of the item. The price is often set for what the seller can get for the product. We are not talking about commodity products. A lens of this type will be priced for the market.
