Is there a Paint Shop Pro for Mac users or is it just windows base Do?

It works on both platforms...though the Win and Mac versions may be written slightly differently.

Blenheim Orange, how was the After image post-processed ?? It may have been done in Photoshop because I don't think that Lightroom will allow us to do this kind of drastic editing. -FiddleMaker

It sounds as if you just want to improve some of your images using simple software. If you are a Windows user ( 7, 8, 8.1 and especially 10), there is a built in (free) program that may very well serve your needs. Photo Gallery. You'll find it in Programs or Apps. Very friendly - mostly intuitive.

Photoshop (now Photoshop Creative Cloud) serves as the premier photo-editing program on the planet. Learning this multi-faceted software does present a learning curve. If you go for it, then you may wish to consider taking a workshop or two in the basics of this software, to give you a foundation in using it.

PCC costs very little, actually, because you can rent a license to use it for only $9.99 per month (last time I looked).

My suggestion: Buy and learn Photoshop Elements to begin with. This photo-editing program you will find easier to use. It will get you started producing edited photographs. In fact, you may see that you need no more than PSE -- at least not for years.

BTW: Editing a photograph brings out its potential.

Ignore the contrarians who cry against photo-editing. They really offer no sound rationale for avoiding the necessity of at least some processing of their photographs.

Good luck.

:) :) :) Good advice, here. There's a lot of Photoshop bashing here, which I don't understand. $10/mo is hardly expensive. I give up a burger and a Coke each month and I'm there. However, the learning curve is extensive and I've a considerable distance to go to reach the end, which I will probably never achieve.

Excellent program for serious photographers. Yes there is a steep learning curve and yes there is a ton of features, some you may never get to. Used it for years. There are also other programs on the market that are very good.

Hardly expensive? Yes indeed.
If and when we learn it all in PS, then they add all kinds of features that we have to figure out.
10 dollars a month for software, that is always updated to the latest and greatest, isn't such a bad deal. IMHO

How much does it cost or is it free?

Can someone show me a basic photo without Photo Shop and then same photo, with Photo Shop applied?

All responses are much appreciated.

Don't let all these people scare you. Photoshop is a tremendously powerful photo editing software that has a relatively simple user interface. Meaning it can be used by a novice and pro alike. I am a novice. I started with Photoshop Elements which is a stripped down version because it was less expensive. I recently moved over to Photoshop CC because it became very affordable at $10 per month. As for what it can do, Photoshop allows you to edit and manipulate photos to your wildest imagination. From adjusting and correcting colors and exposure to combining multiple images to adding effects to images.
You should Google Photoshop How to and look at some videos to see what it can do. It is pretty amazing. Here is one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zgIUkId3sY dont get intimidated by what he is doing. Good Luck

Photoshop is considered by many to be the ultimate software for post processing of digital images. The computer-based software is quite expensive, and I'm not sure it's still available. Adobe has subscription software, including Photoshop, for a monthly fee, but I don't know the particulars of that arrangement. If you have never used post processing software, I recommend you buy the latest version of Photoshop Elements (14 I think), or some other similar software. There are free post-processing programs available for download, but I don't use any of them, since I have and use Photoshop on my computer; I downloaded Gimp once, and it was horrible, so I removed it from my computer. Photoshop has a steep learning curve, in my opinion.

I beg to differ with you. Photoshop CC is a bargain when you figure in free upgrades. And you get Lightroom with it. Also free upgrades. Photoshop can definitely make photos look better by enhancing lights, darks, highlights, shadows, sharpness and detail, colors, depth and on and on. But it's definitely not for amateurs.

Actually that should read "But it's definitely not for the impatient". True the learning curve is steep but even a rank beginner can quickly learn how to adjust exposure and contrast or sharpen their images. As you spend more time with the program your skills will improve by osmosis if nothing else.
For instance, it seems like whenever I want to do something with a photo that I hadn't attempted before all I have to do is google it and there will several methods offered on the web.

PhotoShop seems to be feared by many because all of its capabilities tend to intimidate them. Don't let that be a reason not to try it since you only need to learn it one step at a time.

A.J. Look at serif.com as they have a free version of their photo editing program. Very easy to use. They have also a whole group of software similar to Adobe products but cost a whole lot less.

I wonder whether the OP knows about Lightroom -- it does many of the things mentioned here (straightening, distortion correction, exposure correction, white balance correction etc. etc. etc.) and it is much easier to use than Photoshop.

The real question may be what you (OP) need to do to your images.

Well Said! I agree. I will also say ignore those who say it is expensive. They are most likely referring to the old Photoshop which did cost alot of money but the New Photoshop CC subscription model gives you Photoshop with all of its features and updates plus Lightroom which is another program that is considered to be best of the best which allows you to catalog and Raw Edit Photos for only $10 a month. That is the top 2 programs the Pro's use for only $10 a month. I dont think you will find anything at that level for less. It is a great value. But dont just take anyones word for it you can download both for Free to use for 30 day to see for yourself. Only you can say if $10 a month is within your budget but If you are doing any photo editing at all it is a great value.

Photoshop comes in the Photography package from Adobe along with Lightroom for $9.99 per month with a free 30 day trial. HOWEVER, 30 days will won't come close to scratching the surface on what Photoshop and Lightroom are capable of. The $9.99 per month package is a 1 year commitment and there is a small discount if you pay the entire year in advance rather than monthly. I have my $9.99 per month automatically deducted from my checking account. I never miss it that way.

photoshop is a post processing program designed to enhance your photos. if you are not shooting raw photos, then you probably do not need photoshop, as there is a huge learning challange to using it. you may enjoy Lightroom more, as it is easier to use and will allow you to enhance your photos for a better presentation.
as to the cost, photoshop is available with a monthly fee only. unless you are able to pirate an older copy, you cannot buy the program outright. the program is offered by adobe and can be researched (or googled) on the internet. there are many other programs that you may buy outright to edit your photos. check with your local camera store or major electronics store and ask questions.
