Depends on how you treat them. I've had them for years on the canon and never had a problem. Currently I have the 70D & wish my 5Diii had it. It comes in handy when shoot very low or above your head.

Tony Northrup just did a nice Youtube video, "Which camera should I buy?" This may be helpful.

I am currently in the market for a full frame camera. The three I am currently looking at are all very similar in price and they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

I am needing advice on these three only. Please tell me your likes and dislikes and your experience with them. I picked these based on my budget of $2,000.

1. Sony a7ii (Mark 2)
2. Canon 6D
3. Nikon 610

I currently shoot landscape, some street photography, many portraits of family and friends as well as indoor shots where the lighting is not always best and flash will be distracting.

So, let's just keep this about these cameras with their respective kit lenses. I know this forum is full of wonderful advise on what lenses to upgrade to, but for now, just help me decide between these three.

A little over a year ago I upgraded to a D610 from a D80. I also bought a Nikkor 24-70 f2.8 slightly used from a fellow Hogger. I have been completely satisfied with both and use all of my old Nikkor glass (some of them from my MF film days) on it with amazing results. If you currently have Nikkor glass, (no matter whether it is DX or FX), you will be happy with the D610 as it will perform seamlessly with anything you put on it.

Tom, I've been using Nikons since 1971. However, is that the best brand for you? Maybe not.

What you're going to get here is I'd recommend umpty ump because I've have one, etc.

If I were in your position, I'd sit down, make a chart, and analyse which of the three cameras most fits your demands. Has the features you want, or may want, etc. Then pick the one that does.

I'd also look at comparable lenses that you may want to purchase in the future. Which lenses might you want in the future? Whose lenses perform to your satisfaction?

I hope this helps.

I just upgraded from the D600 to the D750. While I already had good glass I only had to purchase the body from B&H. The D750 is amazing so if at all possible, don' t stop at the 610. Kit lenses are not expensive so just buy separately. Good luck!

Hi,

I shoot Canon so I cannot comment of your Nikon choice. The 7D M Ii is not full frame. It has 1.6 crop sensor. That will give you an advantage when shooting from longer distances. The 6D is full frame. You might look for a used or refurbished 5D M III. Other than the Canon pro 1D or 1Dx it is the best full frame of the Canon line and will serve all your photography needs. Canon is offering refurbished ones for $1899. I'm sure you can find other used listings for less. here is the link to the Canon refurbished one: http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/eos-5d-mark-iii-body-refurbished?

Good luck making your choice.

Tom,
I would also recommend that you go and see how they feel in your hand. All 3 are outstanding. Some would argue some small advantage, but you have to carry and use this tool, and that is the most important factor. Having said that I'm a Nikon guy, and you did mention BUDGET. Nikon like Canon have been producing full frame lenses a long time. You could pick up a Nikon 80-200MM F2.8 and a Nikon 35-70 F2.8 on Ebay for about $300 each, and these are LEGENDARY lenses. New lenses would cost around $1,500 each. So you could almost buy the Nikon 610 and these 2 great lenses for your total budget of $2,000. Pretty amazing. And trust me the quality of those lenses would be tough to beat.

Any of the cameras you are considering will produce great pictures. One advantage with the Nikon is that there are hundreds of used professional lens that you can purchase at great prices. This can save thousands of dollars on just a few great lens. Most any lens Nikon has made in the last 40 years will work on any of the pro or prosumer cameras..

i shoot with the nikon d750. it is a great camera, that said, any of the three you listed are great cameras. but for the price difference, if you choose the nikon d610, you may be better off changing to the d750. check the reviews online.

I am a long time Canon user and have a Canon Ti5 and really enjoy it. All my lenses are the Canon EF mount and did not purchase any lens specifically for the APC C use only. I will get a full frame in the future and looking at the Canon 5D Mark III. Sony is kicking some serious (Canon and Nikon) in cameras. I have all Canon lenses except for one Sigma and it is great. (Canon EF mount). The advice I get on this site is great. Go to some brick and mortar stores and look at the cameras and hold them with lenses that you are looking at. Look at the controls, and functions. My Canon is a great body for the price yet Sony has some wonderful cameras. I don't know much about Nikon yet know that they (Canon and Nikon) have been in competition for years and dance the dance. They are both overpriced yet are good solid cameras. Sigma and Tamron are great lens companies who produce lenses for cameras in their mounts. Look ahead for the next 3-5 years and what direction do you want to go. I have an investment in Canon EF lenses so will continue in that direction. Good luck

If you go with the Nikon d750... nothing says you have to ever articulate the screen if you don't want to...

I don't find this to be a draw back at all. I love the flip up screen on my D750. I helps me get shots I'd other wise have to lay in the wet sand to get. Its very sturdy. I have no fears of it breaking.

Tom, I own both the D610 and the D750. They are both great cameras. The reason I got the D750 is, it's better in low light conditions and I've run into situations where the articulating screen is a plus. That you mentioned shooting in low light, I would recommend the D750 and with your budget, it comes in below that. Best of luck in making your decision.

No, I am upgrading from an APS-C camera (to remain nameless - ha). No lenses or attachments that will affect the decision.

Tom, I've never used any of those cameras. But I will say that most fixate on the nuances of one camera to another, like it's all that mattered. Kinda like buying a new car and fixating only on the stereo!!
But I will tell you why I decided on a Canon when I had a choice 8 years ago. Canon has the most complete system that, besides the camera, includes the most lenses, printers, inks, papers and stellar customer service for all of those. It's the reason more Pros use Canon than any other brand.
Choosing by camera alone, is like not seeing the forest for the trees!
Tom, choose your ststem carefully. It's the system, not the camera!! Good luck. ;-)
