Thank all of you for all the great input, I am slowly recovering the photos. Kind of strange but every time I try to import the pictures more are available to down load. I've started with the second card now and bit by bit more keep coming available. Never had this happen before. Ill keep everyone posted. Thanks again the joggers are awesome.

it is odd but it may be the number of photographs that your computer is struggling with. directory reads can get very slow when you have a lot of files 100,s 1000's in a single folder.

Hmm here is something you might try, I don't know if it will help but i picked it up from a microsoft page
1. What you can do is scan the SD using your Anti-virus.
2. Right click on your SD card* via My Computer
Select Copy
Right click on Desktop or Pictures Folder
Paste
Open the copied SD Folder
It should still show blank, on the upper right corner of the window, type in jpeg on the search bar, press Enter.
The pictures will show up, select all by Pressing: Ctrl A on your keyboard, Ctrl C (copy),
Ctrl V (paste) in your pictures folder or wherever you want to save them.

*I read that as clicking on the card not opening the card and clicking on the folders inside

can't do any harm to try it.

Even the locked card should let you download.

Make sure it is unlocked and run one of the recovery programs on it.

I use the Windows Explorer to do all my downloads. It has no trouble seeing all the files on the card and copying them to the computer. After they are on the computer you can let LR see them.

This is also one more reason l like my D7100. Dual card slots. I always have a backup. I've had to use it only once. But years in the past I lost two whole days of shooting models.

when you say "slowly" how long are you waiting? Raw files are much larger than JPG's. How long are you waiting for the images to show up in the LR Import screen? If you have slower cards and bigger files....

I'm stuck. Went to Europe for 28 days and shot over 2K pictures, on two memory cards, all in RAW, which was the first time I shot in RAW exclusively with no JEPG. I can see all the photos on the camera but when I tried to download the first card over 700 of them don't appear in Lightroom. This was from a Sandisk card reader. So I tried them from the camera with the same result. At this point I'm a little reluctant to try the other card. Anyone out there have an idea as to what happened? Both cards are, relatively speaking, new I bought them about a month before the trip and used them both before I left and they worked fine. Do you think the pictures are retrievable?

Do not despair.

This happens to me occasionally. The card is still ok.

If your camera has dual slots copy the files to the other card in the camera and format the original card. Another approach is import them form the camera to the computer.

This is not a card failure. In my case it seems to have something to do with putting the card in the reader before the computer loads the drive drivers.

Let us know the outcome.

I always use a simple drag and drop procedure to copy image files from my memory cards to my computer, putting them in a folder I've prepared in advance to receive them. Later I Import into Lightroom, simply by pointing it to that folder.

I've done this many hundreds of times and downloaded many hundreds of thousands of images this way. Only three times have I ever had any glitches, and two of those were my own damn fault. One that was on me was a memory card corrupted when I'd pulled it from the camera too quickly, before it had finished writing (Lexar Image Recovery software fixed about 2/3 of the images, so it was only a partial loss). The other was when I changed the USB connections to my computer and had a bunch of images corrupt during the transfer (easily fixed and redone). The last... and the only one that wasn't my fault... was a brand new memory card that was bad. It seemed to be working correctly, but locked up after the first use. We managed to get JPEGs off it, but later couldn't retrieve the corresponding RAW files. So, even with it, not all was lost.

I think the automation using LR to copy and even apply some presets to image files during download tends to get folks into trouble. There are a lot of options that can be changed around and all-too-easily set incorrectly using LR to download. In fact, I avoid all auto downloading software and applets. K.I.S.S. is my mantra!

I also make a point of not using super large memory cards. I use cards that will hold approx. 250 to 500 images, max. Some days I'll fill a dozen or more. That way if anything goes wrong with a particular card or I lose it, the entire shoot isn't gone. I always cringe when I see people buying ultra big memory and entrusting weeks or even months of shooting to that one card. I don't want to "put all my eggs in one basket".

Don't format the card! not till you know that you have all your images.

Do you want to reuse it at all? after all previous time you used it caused problems, you want to go through that again? What are your images worth to you?

What camera & what version of Lightroom? Older versions of Lightroom may not have the correct version of ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) to interpret more current camera Raw files.

What poster notes is why I can't open Sony a6000 RAW images. My PS is CS3 & 4 with no LR. The only way I can get an Adobe Camera Raw update to cover my Sony is to buy a much more recent and expensive PS version. I last opened PS about 6 months ago. Have slowed down a big lot - thats what the upper 80s does for one.

The DNG Converter can create a DNG file compatible with earlier versions of Adobe Camera Raw, how low a version you need I don't know but there will be several versions supported by your software.

I have had that problem but not to that extent, card in camera use your OS to copy, if view-able in the camera they should copy, good luck, Bob.

BTW then reformat the cards after the photos are recovered, and keep as spares, recently bought new Lexar 633X after the last little problem, Bob.

I might make one suggestion. It won't help with your current problem, but will in the future. I never trust 2k of photos to 2 cards. I use r and 8 GB cards and spread out the photos over many cards. That way, should I lose one or one goes bad/gets damaged, I don't lose as much and still have the bulk of my work.

++++++++++++++++

I use this same method when moving my images from card to drive (Three Drives). I Do NOT make use of LR - for One Reason is that I Want To Be The One Who Tells Where The Files Will Go.... NOT some software. Just could not get my head around it.... I have enough to do without learning another program that does what I can do the way I did before LR.
I just saw that it was a redundant program to what I already know how to do with Camera RAW and using Adobe Bridge and to do final edits in CS-5.
Never had this sort of problem.
I have had (Once) a corrupted card issue... But I have a Card Recovery program that works well for that. Sometimes Too Well.

I have 2 Canon 5D Mark II's --- you have a Compact Flash Card(s).

Maybe not enough space on your computer.

I've had that problem several times. My hard drive gets too full and then the card reading goes for a while and stops. Sometimes I get a message telling me why and sometimes not.

This is not memory card failure, it's operator error in some way. Let's not put the OP on the road to using recovery software at all or even discuss it. That could make the problem 100X worse as the files get all bungled up and some lost during the process.
