Flash memory card failure?

I'm stuck. Went to Europe for 28 days and shot over 2K pictures, on two memory cards, all in RAW, which was the first time I shot in RAW exclusively with no JEPG. I can see all the photos on the camera but when I tried to download the first card over 700 of them don't appear in Lightroom. This was from a Sandisk card reader. So I tried them from the camera with the same result. At this point I'm a little reluctant to try the other card. Anyone out there have an idea as to what happened? Both cards are, relatively speaking, new I bought them about a month before the trip and used them both before I left and they worked fine. Do you think the pictures are retrievable?

Is Lightroom up to date for your camera?

I would try to down load them with the software that came with the camera next or even use Windows Explorer and use the OS to see if you can copy them from the card to your hard drive. After that you might try some free card recovery software, I've had to use it in the past with success.

What camera & what version of Lightroom? Older versions of Lightroom may not have the correct version of ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) to interpret more current camera Raw files.

Sorry, I forgot to mention camera and LR version. Camera is Canon 5D II, and the LR and PS are the CC version for Photographers.

Is your software up to date ? It should open the Raw files (see link)...

If you are able to see the photos in camera they are still on the card. Your problem lies beyond the camera. Try eliminating the card reader and see if your problem is resolved.

um that tab is for write protection it shouldn't stop you reading the card.

I'd try a different card reader maybe via a powered hub.

Keep Recuva in mind if you don't get all the images from the card.

http://www.piriform.com/recuva/download

This won't help you now, but when I'm shooting something I consider important, I save to both memory cards (D750).

Maybe not enough space on your computer.

Thank all of you for all the great input, I am slowly recovering the photos. Kind of strange but every time I try to import the pictures more are available to down load. I've started with the second card now and bit by bit more keep coming available. Never had this happen before. Ill keep everyone posted. Thanks again the joggers are awesome.

You'll probably agree but when you go on vacation, most of the time, you take pictures for the memory, when you go shooting by yourself your trying to take photographs. Does that make sense to you? So, if I lose a few I'm not heart broken just frustrated. Thanks again to ALL of you.
