I have been viewing the 7100/7200 as low on the quality chart when compared to the pro or prosumer models, but I was completely overlooking the fact that the 7200 is Nikon's current top-of-the-line DX format camera.

The Sigma 150-600 is the only lens I have that is designed for FX use, but I understand that all my other lens will work but not too well at the wider settings (vignetting).

You need to check each lens at zoom levels and image area choices. All will work in DX image area mode. The D8xx has five image area choices. Most DX lenses work fine with the more square ones or over specific zoom ranges.

Go with the DF. You can use even non-AI lenses on it. It has a flip-over meter tab on the lens mount. This is important because the non-AI lenses have a thicker rim around the lens mount and that can break the meter tab on those cameras that do not have the flip-over feature. Some of those old lenses have really good optics.

If you need to see what I am speaking of, shop the DF on Ebay or somewhere else and find a close up pic of the front of the camera without a lens mounted. You will see that the meter tab, on the right upper quarter of the camera's lens mount, is metal and not plastic. A gentle push moves the meter tab out of the way so it doesn't bind when you mount a non-AI lens.

Well, I've read about a thousand pages, looked at numerous comparison videos, read scores of reviews and listened to everyone's input (which I sincerely appreciate), and I have decided that, at this time, I am going to purchase a D7100. My plan is to use it for a few months, and if I decide to get an FX, I'll get an 810 when the price comes down on them even more. The 7100 will be a giant leap from the technology of my D2 and D200.

I have looked at many eBay postings and searched other sites for the best "trustworthy" price including shipping. Some of these include:

Refurbished: Nikon U.S.A. $599 with 90 day Nikon warranty
B&H $579 with 90 day Nikon warranty
Cameta $579 with 90 day Nikon plus 9 months Cameta warranty

Brand New: Photovideo4less $664.95

Photovideo4less has an excellent eBay rating(52,716 sales with 99.99% Positive feedback). I intend to call and make sure it is a U.S. version camera and everything is included in the box, but I assume it is with that rating. They also have a 30 day money back return policy.

I am leaning toward Cameta @ $579 or Photovideo @ $665 (if all checks out okay). I have purchased from Cameta before, and feel confident with their customer service.

Does anyone know of a better all around deal than the ones above?

Does anyone have experience with Photovideo4less?

Cameta also provides their warranty extension to one year for free. Adorama does similar for a nominal fee ($15). Don't know if B&H has similar but suspect so. All are reliable sources.

I have no personal dealings with them, but if you do a Google search on them and read the reviews, very few folks have anything nice to say about them. Also the D7100 they have on Ebay is NOT a US Import, the item description clearly states "Manufacturer Warranty: No". I'd stay away from Photovideo4less and either go with the refurb for $579 or even consider a new one for $797 on sale.

I have an old D50 (my first camera), a D200, and a D3s. Love the D3s for sure. 9 fps and full frame and 11 on cropped. Only use 9 fps for sports and live music. Fantastic camera! If I get any other body, it will be the D800 series because of the 4 stop dynamic range I've been reading about. Have not tried on myself though.
I keep my D200, 17-55, and 70-300 along with a tripod in the car in case I come across something on the road that's worth photographing.

I went through the eBay ad a couple times, but I completely overlooked that Warranty note. Thanks for pointing that out. I have scratched them from my list.

I will probably end up keeping my D2X and D200, because I like both of them. I may also decide to keep the D200 in my SUV.

All you are going to get is a persons bias because there is no one right answer. If I were you, and you said you want to update, I would go with the D810 because of 36.3MP FX-Format CMOS Sensor and
EXPEED 4 Image Processor. I have the D800 and love it.

Well that's your personal bias. An objective reason to recommend the D810 would be that since OP already has a D2X and D200, the control architecture of the D810 is very similar and would make the transition to a D810 much easier than learning the control architecture of the D7100.

The D810 is an awesome camera and I'm trying to figure out how to fit one in my budget. But I think the cost and technology of the D810 far exceeds OP's desires.

I have a 610 and I can tell you that the 105mm micro pics I am taking are catching attention. I noticed the low light comment above so I will try to test this affirmation. Good luck choosing, there are so many options and they are probably all good so it may boil down to what you are comfortable with using! John

I don't know where shutterbob is coming from. The DXOMark camera sensor score comparison rates the D610, D750 and D810 as about equal in low light performance and very near the best sensors in low light performance. The only sensors with a better low light performance rating were the Sony A7R II and A7S and the Nikon Df, D4S and D3S.

Wheedle, Thanks! I thought I bought a lemon! I have been very pleased with my 610 but I have to say, I am not good enough at this point to have even noticed weaknesses without doing some kind of test. I am really having fun shooting in daylight and learning to shoot with a soft box with closeups but have not settled on anything that really makes it something I don't fight with relative to my softbox!
