Another possibility, that I am using, is continuing to use Aperture (MAC). It is still the most intuitive program around with lots of control and good cataloging and it is reported to work just fine with the new operating system Apple just released.

You cannot cancel online. When you choose the "cancel my subscription" option online, it tells you that you MUST call customer service as that isn't available online.

Adobe has lowered their marketing and operations to Corporate scum level. I never wanted or needed their CC thing. Stand alone PP software works far better and cheaper for me. Continually available New features online (CC) makes some people happy. But Adobe, Microsoft, Apple, et. Al, want to rent software because it,s better for them financially. Way too much corporate control. They have become the big, indifferent, corporate enemies they once set out to replace in the 70's and 80's. Time to Bring on the competition and replace them all. Not easy, but this post is a good start.

Thanks for the heads up, rpavich. I will look into it as well.

UPDATE to previous message. I downloaded a trial edition of Exposure 7 from the AlienSkin website. Just as Rpavich advised, the interface is straightforward and easy to use. I like that film emulation presets are viewable instantantly - makes trying choices less 'trying'. I was disappointed, tho, to learn that Exposure 7 does not currently recognize my newest 'old' camera, an Olympus E-PL5. I was still able to try E7 by removing the memory card from the camera and inserting it into my computer. BUT HERE'S NEWS: AlienSkin expects to release its newest version, "Exposure X", in the next few months. Exposure X will recognize more cameras and, and, per AlienSkin support, will automatically be provided free to all purchasers of Exposure 7.

Ten dollars a month may not sound like much, but if adds up. I prefer to buy something and upgrade to a newer version if I want. I prefer Corel PaintShop Pro and hope they never go to a subscription method.

I dropped all of the Adobe CC products about 3 months ago in favor of DXO Optics pro-what a PITA that was-constant phone calls and emails trying to keep me as a customer-not to mention I had to go through customer service just to cancel. It left me not wanting anything to do with Adobe.
travis why did you switch to optics pro. Chief criticism of it is is slow in processing the dng files, compared to lightroom etc. Also the dng files are huge like twice the size of files in lrm. Some guys process in dxo and finish up in ltrm. What is your experience?

I find that DxO does a few thing really, really well. And I don't try to use it as my main tool. But it is available from Lightroom and that is how I use it.

I have the elite version, and the Prime Noise reduction is absolutely great. I also like the Clear Image for haze reduction. It is better than the dehazer in Lightroom. It also has a more intelligent ability to adjust brightness. The are some other things too, but I don't like it so much as a general purpose tool.

I have been using the Adobe light room and Photoshop for $10 a month for two years now and have been happy.
Just recently I saw a preview of alien skin exposure X and immediately I recognized that it was a lightroom killer.

I have been using it (version 7) since yesterday I am and I am very impressed. For my needs it does the job very well and it will pay for itself in a year based on saving $11 a month on the Adobe subscription.

If your editing, like mine, is minimal and basic you might want to check it out.

I suck at math, am I missing something? It looks like your new software is giving you a dollar a month to use it? Or are you including tax?

I don't mean to be sarcastic, I'm just trying to understabd the math. I think I'll check it out in any case.

Try here, it was only for a limited time so not sure the discount price is still in effect.

Thanks. It's available until 11/28. I may give it a try.
