Rick has recently overcome some medical challenges and has relocated. He got behind for a while, but is ramping up for full scale service. Let's all hope that he has no more health setbacks to stymie his efforts. As a personal note, if Rick reads this, I would be interested in knowing if Rick is mentoring other technicians to achieve his high rate of successful repairs at fair prices.

Some years back Rick said he could repair an older Nikon lens for me, then kept it a long time before finally deciding he didn't want to do it after repeated inquiries as to what was happening with the repair. (There was nothing more wrong with the lens than originally described.) Charged me to send it back.

Not well versed in this, so perhaps i shouldn't comment, but for nikon repair (out of warranty) i used precision camera repair in enfield CT http://www.precisioncamera.com/

they have one flat fee for each camera model check them out i thought they had other locations but could be wrong

yes they will go through the camera and spec up they replaced my on/off switch i wasnt even aware was off

I was instructed by Nikon to send my P900 to precision for repair under warranty, they had it for 31 days and when i inquired about it, they sent me another camera with no explanation, shoddy service if i've ever seen it.

I see several nice D5100's on eBay for around $300. Consider that before you spend a lot of money on repairs. A lot of repair estimates cost $200 or more.

I'm having issues with a D5100. (dropped off a filing cabinet) I know at one time we had a UHH'er who did Nikon repairs. Can anyone point me in his (or her) direction? I've heard KEH does repairs. Anyone had experience with them? I thought about just sending it to Nikon but they are a bit pricey for someone on my budget. I've also heard that their repair people seem to consider these older less expensive models to be 'disposable'.

I've had good service from C.R.I.S. https://www.criscam.com. They've fixed Nikon cameras and lenses for me. They are authorized service for Nikon and a whole bunch of lesser brands like Canon, etc.

I sent my D600 in for the free shutter replacement and I got a perfect camera back. I would send all my work to them.

I purchased a Nikon refurbished D7100 from KEH for around $500. It had only 37 shutter activations.

Hi. My name is Rick. I’m the owner and lead technician at Discount Camera Repair and a member in good standing here at the UHH. I’ve been doing repairs for other members here at greatly discounted rates and would be glad to help.

I'd be more than happy to repair the amera for you and keep the cost as low as possible. If you’re interested, please respond by private message or simply reply to this post.

I have 3 Nikons the least expensive was the D5100 but it has been my go to camera. If it broke I would cry. If you tell us what is broken maybe you can get a little more light shed on the cost of the repair of maybe if it is worth the cost of the repair. since this is now a older model the price has dropped on the body only purchase. I have had very good luck with used and refurbished from Amazon. Maybe that should be a consideration. Don't know if this helps. If it were my 5100 I would definitely be having a garage sale to replace it (Only with another 5100). Good Luck.
