I'm a disabled astronomer since 1975 , after 40+ yrs. I'm not scared to image. This Dec. my family in the North is getting me a used canon t 3 i rebel so I can image my birds and I'm going to attempted some dso's , it won't be modified. I'll leave the IR filter in it so I can image my birds. Any comments on this camera for astro imaging, besides BYEOS and a bulb control cable?

I don't know anything about it.
But I can bump it to the top. ;)
I know next to nothing about Canon cameras other than the fact that there is a plethora of programming available for Canons as opposed to Nikon or any other DSLRs. You could always modify your camera and still image daylight objects as long as an appropriate IR cutoff filter was installed inplace of the one removed, so as to increase the cameras sensitivity to H-Alpha while still cutting the blooming effect IR has when used shooting through glass/lenses.
Before purchasing a bulb cable there are many guides online on how to create one that either interfaces with a serial port or with USB, I was going to buy one for my D7000 till I saw they wanted over $50 and only came in Usb, whereas I wanted Serial, all together I paid roughly 8 bucks at radio shack and an hour or so with the soldering iron.
Anyway about it I'm sure you will love your new camera.

I have a T2i as well as my other Nikons and use it on a regular basis.
It's a nice camera and will give you some great images.
There is a learning curve just like any phase of photography.
Just don't be afraid to post and ask questions.
You will get all kinds of good information here.

Well, not from me.
The only Canon in my bag is the 45 ACP in the troubleshooting pocket.
When the shutter on it gets pressed, the scene changes dramatically. ;)
DOG DIGGITY,I thought that I might get a nibble. I ended up getting just what the Doctor ordered "Sound Advice" thanks gentlemen. I'm still working with my TEC 216XT PICTOR and getting real close to having focus, it just takes time and patience and since the huricane is moved off the skies are showing blue again after a week of cloud wind and rain damnation.I hope to get some imaging done with the TEC CCD camera this Fall and Winter .

Those wild squirrels can get mighty ferocious Sonny.

Actually, it's for the two legged squirrels, Craig.
32 ounces of prevention beats a trip to the hospital or morgue.
Never have had to bring it out, but better have and not need.
Than to need and not have. ;)

Glad you made it through the hurricane OK.
Just wondering what's keeping you from getting precise focusing???

Glad you got the pun about 'squirrels' :P :P :P

Craig , I focus on Vega w/ 2 in.30mm WA EP and bahtinov mask getting my spiking the same length. I mark focus tube for starting point and insert camera center object, start cooler and wait for it to get to the right temp. @-20c and start exposure and wait about a min. as it reads and downloads. Then I find that I'm off to the side and adjust with autostar handpad and finally centered with the fine tune knob I make tiny adjustments and either go too far or not enough and after 25 test images ,I go viewing and say next time. I was starting to make progress with the moon but, now it's rising during daytime. I'm going to try the invisible tape technique with my imaging barrel.

Sounds like you are doing everything correctly, is there an adjustment on your scope for Collimation??? The 8 in. Orion astrograph should have.

I'm not sure that is the issue.
I almost always have to refocus when I change from eyepiece to camera. Whether it's my canon or the ZWO I have to refocus. Have you tried focusing on Vega with the camera you are shooting with? Not sure if you are focusing and going to a different object but I find if I focus on a bright star like vega I am close when I go to another target. Of course it may be columation. Just adding my wooden nickel.

Yes I always refocus the camera on a bright star before shooting.
And there is always a focal length difference between the Eyepiece and the Camera.
But as often as I move my scope around it needs collimation once in a while.
