Last I heart is about $100 per person including parking and bus. I've heard a lot of people say it is beautiful, but not worth the money.

There is a glass-bottom walkway out over the edge of the canyon on the north rim. Never been there, but saw a program on TV about it being built. Probably get some awesome pics there. I think the Grand Canyon is a target-rich environment for grand photography (yes, pun intended...)

I looked into this before we went last year. Ended up NOT going. Seems it is a long drive on bad roads then you have to pay to park, pay to take a bus to the site, pay to walk out on it and NO cameras allowed.

There are numerous viewpoints on both the North and South Rim. The South ones are more numerous and accessible. If you want to go to my website I have pictures taken on both rims all with minimal walking. I'm not capable of long hikes so limit myself to easy access. Also there are numerous pictures from other Canyons in Southern Utah that are within driving range. My site: http://www,photosbyswede.com. For every picture on the site, I have another 20 or more in the waste basket or the library. Be prepared to take lots on images.

It is cheaper and a lot better to take a chopper tour out of Tusayan than go to that stupid glass bottomed platform. Also you can take in a great IMAX at Tusayan.

I live in AZ and go to the GC a few times a year. My first time was the week of May 6, 1978, 12 ft. of snow on north rim.

Since then ,I have gone to the south rim many times a year. To get the the north rim takes a lot of time ( I did it once).

In close to 30 years, I have always been awe struck by what I have seen, never the same thing twice. It is such a natural wonder.

You many spend the bucks and take the Helicopter ride, not cheap, but great shots!

If You shoot digital, bring a few cards ( 4 or greater GB each ), if film, bring a lot.
It rains in August and last 2 weeks of July. June is great.

The only good thing about the rain is that it clears the California Smog out of the air. I don't think snow is a problem this year on the North Rim. Again, both North and South have diffeent apeals, different animals, scenic views, access, and plant life. I hope the original poster has gotten something out of all of this.

A number of years ago, I rode a charter plane ride, from Vegas to the canyon. The plane flew right in the middle of the canyon, and I took some awesome shots from the Cessna. I'm not sure if they still have those charters, but if they do, go for the most scenic ride of your life.

Why in the world would anyone want to take pictures of a whole in the ground? Would you mind if I was packed in a suitcase in your car with my camera of course.

I have been to the south rim, the north rim and the west rim.

Both the north and south rim are national parks and therefore inexpensive. The west rim is operated by the local Indian tribe and I presume is owned by them. It is pretty expensive and unless you take a tour bus it is is a difficult 12-15 mi trip from the highway over a very rough unpaved road (I was there about 4 or 5 years ago so maybe the road is fixed). The two lane highway approach is ok but pretty far from civilization. The glass bottom "bridge" is very cool. As cool as the bridge is, I wouldn't go again because of the difficulty in getting there and the cost.
Both the North and South rims are equally spectacular. My vote is for the North Rim. My primary reason for this is because the South rim is better known and therefore much more crowded.
You won't be dissapointed regardless of which rim you choose.
Good Luck and have a great time!

As a "scenic" and "wildlife" photographer I try to avoid the typical tourist traps. On a number of occasions I have hired locals (hunters, fishermen, native guides, etc.) to take me to places that are seldom visited, rarely seen, and untamed or wild. There are places in every state that offer unique photo opportunities. Each one of these will look different depending on the location of the sun, weather, cloud cover or lack thereof, time of day,... well you get the picture (no pun intended). I've spent entire days in a single location or have gone back to the same spot many times in varying conditions. Never give up on a location is my motto.

Aw, I expected at the very least a nice picture of the Grand Canyon. Don't understand why this picture got on a Grand Canyon post.

I think you said you you were retired. Get yourself the u.s. national parks pass, look up on net about fee. I think but not sure, there's a one time $10.00 fee. Good for life, anywhere in U.S.A.

I have been there a few times. Although I never went "into" the Canyon, I would recommend it. There really is only so long you can look down into a hole. Not far from there, Canyonlands, is amazing!! As far as the flight from Vegas, the last I heard, they are not allowed to go below the rim of the canyon anymore. This doesn't mean it wouldn't be a great oppurtunity. The last time I was there, is $20 per car to enter, or a "membership" was $50 (I'm sure both of these have gone up). The membership gets yu into EVERY national park and national monument in the country for 1 year. Easily worth it if you travel. My last trip there, bought the annual membership, and it got us into 12 places in 2 weeks. Then mailed to my friend living in Flagstaff, he used for the next 50 weeks to get into the canyon. He mentioned a place that I've never been to, and after seeing the images, wish I would have. Havasu Falls, google it, it unbelievable. It is on a reservation, and there are 3 ways in. Walk, mule, or helicopter. I think it is 12 miles each way. He would walk, he was young and I thinked he camped a few days(?). Every 5 minutes, the light changes at the Grand Canyon. Sometimes just due to a cloud moving in or out.

I think it's more than that, and only good for a year. The do offer a certain discount/special for seniors.
