Good for you! Even in England, American words and spelling are taking over. I find it amusing that so many Americans imitate English spelling, while the English are imitating us. Language changes. The French have found out that you can't prevent change in language.

My pet peve is RUDE people on this site. Be honest with people, but just because your a "Professional" doesn't mean you have to be mean. You do not own this forum, either be hepful, or keep your trap shut. Honest, critiqe is what it is about, helping others, or asking for help, that's what makes this site for EVERYONE!

Two peeves. 1. Those correct spelling. We have 6 kids and four of them could look at a word once and could spell it forever. This was from 3rd grade on. The other two would work and work on 20 words and get 16 + or - right on their speeling tests. They took after me. Since the spelling correctors have the gift the should rejoyce. Lets not have people that are very smart when it comes to photography not post becuause someone will correct their spelling. 2. Politics. Left or Right. We are all photographers keep it out. It would be great if we could get spell check on Quick Reply. - Dave

Two excellent points. As long as posters make an effort to be understood, we shouldn't poke fun at them. As for politics, nothing can destroy a forum faster than those discussions. I left a good non-photo forum because it got so political and vicious.

What on earth has this spelling got to do with the word lens and the correct way this word is spelled, which is what my particular comment was about????

Whether is is a single lens or a multitude of them as in lenses, there is STILL NO "E" on the end of the word "LENS" and that is all there is to it. I was speaking of the word lens and not the plural version of lenses. That has absolutley nothng to do with what I wrote because if you bothered to read the origianl post I made, I clearly stated that my peeve was with people who thought there was an "E" at the end of the word "LENS".

Snowbear then goes on to say, and several others chimed in as if they were also wanting to be the first to mention it, that there is an "E" on the end of the word lens when you are talking about the plural word "Lenses".

Well why don't you take a look again and you will see that this is a different word and has nothing to do with an "E" on the end of the singular word "Lens" because you have added "ES" to make lens a plural.

That would be like me saying there is no "E" on the end of the word "spill" (incase someone was spelling this word spelled spille, for example). And then you (snowbear), would go on to say "yes there is... when you use the word spilled". Again, this would have nothing to do with the word spill or the incorrect spelling of spille.

That reminds me of another pet peeve... People who do not read a post correctly and then go on to add their comment to it with a completely unrelated point. Lens and lenses have absolutely nothing to do with the incorrectly spelled word, "lense".

And I am not talking about the fast typing that makes someone add on an additional letter and they posted without reading back through their comments first. We've all done that and that is an acceptable mistake. So one "lense" spelling we may be able to accept as a speed typing mistake of a letter accidently typed on and forgotten about. But repeated use of lense is simply incorrect spelling.

Again if you think my statement is incorrect, please don't search out an obscure dictionary somewhere in the world via the internet to prove your point. Rather, show me in a periodical, where you will find the word "lense" used pertaining to photography instead of the correct word "Lens". No camera magazines ever uses the spelling "lense" when speaking of the correctly spelled word "lens".

Bad photographs of pets... especially when they are called "fur kids." Nothing makes me want to gouge my eyes out with pencils more than a close-up, out of focus image of some little yappy dog with bows in its fur sitting in someone's lap.

And, of course, it will have zombie eyes from the on camera flash.

Unfortunately, not real big on good photos of pets, either.

BINGO!!

Usually a pet peeve is something you don't like, but your second sentence seems to indicate that you like it. I'm confused, not that it's the first time for me.

So have Americans.

Language should be fluent because times change. Give this generation and the next another ten years and everyone will be texting in 140 characters or less.

Actual Russelray she did not, that IS the correct spelling if you know anything about the English language, you incorrectly spelled it. But then I expect that you are only familiar with the basterdisatio... sorry, I mean the Americanisation of the English language.

I took his statement to mean (and correct me if I'm wrong) that it's not a photograph if you do any PP work to it. He is a "SOOC" kind of guy.

which is fine by me, but I do PP on my images. I like them to POP and since I shot RAW .... well it's the age old agruement, isn't it?

I usually back out of the thread ASAP, what this says to me is "I'm to busy/important/self absorbed to do the work myself, I want you (UHH) to do my research for me."

How about apostrophe's used when adding an 's' to make word's plural?

Photos of the dead goes way back in time, to some of the first photos ever taken. The Old West was another place photos of the dead were popular, especially dead outlaws. They use to display the dead in open coffins on the street for everyone to see. Doesn't bother me in the least... I love old grave yards too....;0)

Mike

I love graveyards as well, I have tons of pictures of tombstones. If anyone goes thru my photo collection after I'm gone and doesn't know my history they are going to be calling the officals. I have pictures of skeletal remains, bodies in various stages of decomp, before and after hair and make-up, in coffins, on slabs, in body bags, dressed/undressed, old/young, babies and fetuses.
