No matter your skill level, if you are charging people to take pictures of them, have a business facebook page, website, blog, etc, have business cards, and anything else. In other words put on all the airs of being a professional, then please do the world a favour and get a business license, register to collect and pay state and federal taxes, get your permits (if needed). Become legal in your state/providence, town and country. Pay your taxes, have insurance!!!

Hahaha!! Very good.

And every blown out-blurry-underexposed shot of a bad sunset has a "too large" water mark that says "Cherished Memories Photograhy"!

One I haven't seen mentioned yet. My biggest peeve on the UHH is why is everyone in hiding? You don't have to list your address, but at least give your state or country. Also those that post beautiful landscape pictures and never say a word about where the shot was taken. Are you all ashamed of where you live? If you are afraid someone's coming after you for some reason, you shouldn't be posting here at all. Just my 2 cents on the subject. If someone really wants to find you, your "in hiding" here, sure isn't going to stop them. I've spent most of my life in California and Nevada and I'm proud of it.

I don't want to kill anyone's dream of being a pro one day, hey I have that dream too. I just want people to understand the importance of taking your time and building your skill level before hanging the shingle and once you decided to hang it, be legal!

Mine doesn't say "In Hiding" but I don't advertise my location. When asked I tell where I am located, but I really don't see the point of having it out there with every post I make. If someone wants to stalk me, I at least want to make them do a little leg work. ;)

I think a lot of folks just don't bother to fill that space in. I didn't worry about filling in my biography.

Good point Mike. I've lived on an island off the Jersey coast most of my life, love it and happy to let everyone know. 18 miles long and 'bout 3 or 4 blocks wide. Since we got rid of home phone (only use cells) I'm not in the book, but if you're riding around, I'll be the one headed for the beach with the Nikon hanging 'round my neck. Sure not in hiding. again good point Mike

People who think they are a photographer because their pictures came out.
MWC Professional term for Moms with camera. Friends told them they take good photos, they open a "home studio" and pay no taxes, no rent, etc. and compete with professional photographers.
People that plagerize. When you pose a group they jump in and take a snapshot.

Thank you Silverfox. I figured I'd get a lot of negative flack for even bring it up....;0) It's nice to see different parts of the country that I know I'll never see in person. If you're proud of you photos at least tell us all where it was taken.

So you are still in the middle? Too old for the guitar and too young for the chair. Don't change a thing

It's only going to get worse because the Internet allows many people in many professions to work at home. In fact, I work out of my home as a home inspector.

Yea, people who think PP is photography....

My Pet Peeve are the photographers who forget that photography developed out of art and PP provides the creative outlet that some of us lazy poor shootin' snappers enjoy making and are planned from the start to embelish. In other words, there ARE many aspects of photography that many here just can't accept. There's plenty of room for the realist, the impressionist, the abstract, the pro, the portrait, the macro, the wildlife photographer/artist and everyone else who plays in the general medium of image making.

Right on Prof! There's a bunch on UHH who think art is a a 'starving artist' $18 framed(!) picture of a white capped conical mountain set against a sky painted to match their sofa and drapes.

Do you know how many times I've heard "oh but I wanted my family portrait to be these shades of green because it matches my decor" ... Hey dress the kids in shades of green then, don't give them green skin tones!

ARGHHHHH!!!!!!

Hey, Guys---you must have all the "Press cameras" in existance. Of course you have some of the newer ones. The last time I saw mine, we were still using powder.
Don't know for sure how you did it, but its a dandy pic
