I was active duty Air Force from 75-80, then switched to Air National Guard. Activated for Desert Storm.
Glad to see so many vets here.

People here have repeatedly thanked the vets and I for one really appreciate that. However we shouldn't forget the true heroism of the mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles ,grand parents and wives who sent their boys and girls off to war. They cringed ever time a dark green car drove down the street. They probably cried after they answered the door and found out it was only the little boy next door wanting to get his baseball that was in your back yard. Those folks were true Heros! They got no medals or citations. I would much rather go back to Dong Ha than send my son or daughter off to war.
Too many parents, wives, relatives and friends had to live the rest of their lives without a loved son, daughter, husband or friend because war is not a video game.

About a year ago I was in the waiting room of the Dallas VA Hospital and talked to another veteran who looked like he had been used hard and put away wet. During the course of the conversation he asked if I had been to thee "Nam" and I said I had but only in a B-52 and never on he ground. I asked him if this counted and he shook my hand and said "Welcome home brother, I 'll bet no one else has said that to you before". He was right and it was good sharing the feelings we all had upon returning from "over there even after 45 years." I thank this other veteran for doing this and I make sure I pass it on to any other vet I talk to. A B-52 guy.

I have the telegram sent to my grandmother in WWII telling her of the death of my uncle. Some of her neighbors didn't think she deserved to fly the Gold Star flag because she was of German descent. She felt quite hurt by their actions.

When I meet a veteran I first ask what branch they were in and then say, "Welcome home soldier, sailor, airman or marine."

Thanks Greg. I am a vet, having served in the U.S. Navy from November 1943 until I retired June 1973. 30 years of the best
time of my life. I would have stayed in longer if the Navy would
have left me.

To all those that served in Vietnam check out this list of problems that came from Agent Orange You can file with your local service rep of go to your Local VA hospital and you can get some compensation. About a years ago I had a heart attack and found that it was from Agent orange so is Diabetes. Check the list and if you have thing on it fill a dbq form.

I was in the Army in the Korean War. Late February, '52 till January, '53. Then a year in Tokyo. Traveled the length of South Korea from Pusan (southern tip - left from there) to just into North Korea (Old Baldy Mountain). Came home to indifference. It really was a war --- not a police action. God bless all you vets.

This is a good move. I've encouraged several friends who served and were where much of the spraying was done to get to the VA . Those who have gone to the VA now have disability classifications running from 10% to 60%. Some of them also have D-II and have had quadruple bypass. So they do indeed require compensation. Me, because I'm there 8/64 - 9/65 I'm ok.
