Wait on.
Your, or even my, photographic ability is irrelevant.
What I complain of is your unjustified and unnecessary rancor against a fellow poster. He is as welcome to his opinion as you are to yours.
From your previous posts I know it is difficult for you, but if possible, just remember that before you become offensive.

You have to look at previous posts he has made (weeks prior). There is a history here and a repeated pattern. It is always the same. His comments are not opinions but vitriolic dissertations for which he can't post any image to substantiate. He advocates for the Sony A7R II but can't produce one image from that camera. I find that quite interesting.

Are images relevant? Absolutely! It validates and adds credibility to the assertions. Cholly is not photographer and I gather neither are you. Oh sure, you take images, travel photos or even take a safari to your backyard but that does not make you a credible authority. That comes from a recognized and accumulated body of work. Do you or Cholly have that? If not what is your frame of reference (pun intended)?

I have an A7ii and bought the Matsumoto/Rolland book and find it difficult to learn all the cameras features. The Friedman archives book is quite expensive but may be a good one. Lastly amazon has a book due out soon by Brian Smith that I am waiting for. Hope this helps.

I've recently acquired a new Sony A7mII and am dazzled by the images it can produce, especially in low light. I never thought I'd say this, but I am starting to consider getting rid of all my Nikon hardware, but I got Nikon down pat! That brings me to my real question...does anyone know of some good literature for the new A7mII? I've found stuff online but I'd like to have a book that is comparable to the Nikon books I've found.
Thanks a bunch in advance!

I've been looking at SONY for quite a while now. Have an acquaintance from Scotland who is on facebook named David Stoddart. He is a pro who uses the new SONYs exclusively. You can check out his work on his facebook page.

I've gotten a great deal of info on the SONY A7rII from articles published on facebook. I'm also looking at the Leica D-Lux to see what that has to offer. I used them as a shooter in Vietnam, and love their cameras. Only wish we had today's technology back them.

Glad to hear you're so happy with the results of your new SONY. Makes my decision-making process so much easier. Post some shots sometime. And thanks to all the others for their comments - much appreciated.

Check out this web site. I think he has a book on the a7m2.

Having just bought the A7ii, I appreciate this information.

The Friedman book is a book on the A7 and the A7R, for which one can purchase a 70 page supplement for new features on the A7ii. The hard copy is quite expensive, but I am going to order the much less expensive download of the book and supplement.

On Amazon, I located a book by Matsumoto and Roullard on the A7ii, which will not be available until October 30. I have preordered this book.

Have fun with your camera. If I was not already invested in another system, I would be joining you.

Good shooting!

The better answer is the Sony A7R MII. It is enroute to me now. For the past two years my camera has been the Sony Nex 6. It has been great, and I think that mirrorless with evf is far superior to a DSLR in many respects including portability and the ability to see the image through the sensor as it will be recorded. My lenses range from fisheye to the 55-210 zoom. The new camera will be larger and heavier with the lenses that I bought, but the capabilities and IQ should make it worth it.
I am sure that the books on these cameras will be out shortly.

I have nothing against Sony. It is just Cholly. This nondescript individual has really nothing to say - other than Sony. He talks of nothing else. He puts down every other manufacturer. Claims Sony works with every lens out there. It does not. Blows away every other camera out there today. It does not. Claims all Nikons are really Sony cameras. They are not. But what irks me, is that he has yet to produce any image of any type from any camera (including Sony) to indicate he even knows what he is talking about. And if he did, he would realize, it really is not so much about the camera as it is about composition and light. Good photographers can shoot with anything. Simply put, he is a troll, taking up time and space. I did the following images for a project on Monday. These images are not about any camera or sensor - it is all about composition and light. Argue as you like, advocate as you like, even Sony but if you can't produce quality images, why is he here?

Got to give it to Sony. They really scored with this one.

This Sony is so tempting. If only they had a decent selection of long lenses and flashes.

Hope Nikon does something similar while I'm still able to hold a camera.

That is pretty much how I feel....my hope is that they can match their feature rich camera bodies - with more compact lenses which "fit" the size of the bodies. Maybe a dream...but it is a good one I think.

I have a lot of Nikon gear, including the D810. But I just put in an order for the A7RII (I expect a 2 month wait). I love the D810, but I really appreciate the focus peaking and "what you see is what you get" on the LCD and the viewfinder in my A6000 and RX100III. And the in camera stabilization in the A7RII is also very attractive to me. I will probably start off with a couple of fast Sony, Zeiss, or Sigma prime lenses for the A7RII and buy an adaptor for using my Nikon lenses in manual focus mode. I had hoped that Nikon would come out with a full frame mirrorless camera that would use all of their existing f-mount lenses, but their isn't even a rumor of that out there. The only slight down-side of the A7RII, for me, is the lack of 14-bit uncompressed image data. Sony can fix that with a software update but I'm not counting on that.

I have the A7 II and the Nikon D610. Other than the obvious ergonomic differences I consider them to be on the same level.

I have an investment in Nikon lenses that I will not dump for the sake of switching to the Sony and I also have Leica and Zeiss manual focus lenses that I would not give up to use the Nikon exclusively. Once I can afford a decent Sony/Zeiss autofocus prime lens I may consider attaching it permanently to the A7 II.

I am happy to keep both systems and use them for different purposes.

Whatever else is going on in this thread, those are awesome images that anyone would be proud of, no matter how they were captured.

My Nikon lenses on the A7r are not a good fit for the camera. It is a total imbalance. The Carl Zeiss lenses are smaller and create the proper balance but the selection is very limited.

I mentioned on another topic 3 of my professional photography buddies, all well know photographers switched from Nikon & Canons to Sony a7s. They love them.
