I have used an OPTECH binocular harness on several occasions. If it will hold an old pair of 12 X 60 Steiner Armored Naval Binoculars (designed for a swivel mount and weighing over five pounds), it will hold most camera/lens rigs.

JEEP DADDY: What?! Camera and lens weighing 1/120 Tons!! What do you carry around Ansel Adams old camera or a wet plate camera... 12.6 pounds! Oh! The lens, you shoot the moon and only rivaled by Mt. Palomar 200". OK, seriously, I do not doubt it a bit considering how much some of my old "Minolta" glass weights. I bet we are all courious about what are you lumbering around with ... that must be quite a chunk of glass... If I were to write a story, you would be a character who took a photo to give Columbo the clue he needed to solve the crime?

Dpullum, Allen Co strap looks like it should do the job but does it clip on directly to camera? I have the D3100 and threading the Nikon strap through the small eyelets was very difficult. Anyone use this strap on a D3100or D40? Thanks.

Dblunt75, No the Allen does not (yet) hook directly. The hooks on the Allen are quite heavy duty and not suited for direct hook, however looking at my Sony, I can use small "key chain" rings. As I recall, my local ACE Hardware has an assortment.

Based on my comfort this weekend, I absolutely will arrange something.... however, hooking to the present straps means that for quick shots I would be able to use the Ouch strap or a hand grip... variations and flexibility are key to "ninja" photography.

Thanks Dpullum, looks like the key chain rings should work perfectly.

I forgot to mention what sold me on this item - I was shooting in a nature reserve in Mexico when a saw a park ranger with this harnes and a very large pair of binoculars on it - I watched with amazement at the ease of use over the conventional straps - I talked with him and bought one as soon as I got home - I am buying one for a freind who is going to the Amizon reagon of Paru on a missonairy trip soon.

God Bless you for your courage on going on a missionary trip. The angels will be rejoicing! Bet you'll get some great shots too. God will certainly reward you.

No - it is not me that is going but a young friend from church who I have clicked with on photography - yes _ do know about missionary workers and what they go through - my wife's great grand parents & grand parents were in China as Methodist Medical Missionairies at the time of the Boxer uprising - the grandmother wrote a chiling story of the womens survival.

The lens is a Canon 500mm F4, w/ Lenscoat, Canon 7D with dual battery grip. Weighed at the office where my ex-girlfriend works (veterinary hospital). I have a clamp on the foot base that allows me to move the strap from this lens/camera combo to any lens with a foot and plate (all have them) or a plate on camera body (all have them).

Most people that I know that shoot wildlife use a 500mm f4 lens (Nikon and Canon) because that is the largest lens that can still be hand held by most people. (I didn't say everyone!) Canons new 500mm f4 is almost 2lbs lighter than the one I have but they are VERY expensive and hard to get still!

BILLMN: I like the opti/Tech and they will have one less pair in stock by Wednesday afternoon. Thank you for solving my problem, flexibility, not pricey ... key to KISS philosophy.

JeepDaddy: I will forgo getting that lens, 30 years ago, I was a tough dude and now still strong but not a masochistic self.
