Prepared for a shoot today, put on my camera and it was so heavy with the strap pressing on the back of my neck...Ouch. Recalled my harness and attached the camera. It was truly great, the camera weight distributed on both of my shoulders.

Amazon: Allen Company 4 Way Adjustable Deluxe Binocular Strap, $8.75 .. I considered others, this is lightweight small fits in bag easily. Indeed price is right. Last time this was discussed in a forum there were a lot of people suggesting heavy duty expensive contraptions. I give this low cost lightweight a 4/5 **** because it will need mods to connect to camera.

Looks like a real nice rig, dpullum. I don't like wide straps much. How did you have to modify it?

I recently purchased a Blackrapid camera strap that allows the camera to hang at your side. Very good neck pad & also mounts to the tripod threads ob bottom of camera. I carried a 300 mm lens on the camera will no discomfort. You just have to be careful not to bang camera agains something...had no problem in this area.

This particular item has a 1" strap, you may be thinking of the "better" (not) heavy duty model by the same company. While the at the side support mentioned may be great, this was used with a short lens 18-55mm. Again, many flavors of straps. But for low cost/simplicity, fit in side pocket of my bag, this unit fits my bill.

Surly, someone will modify this unit to hold up pants as well as camera.

Obviously, that was not made for a camera. If so, it would have been much more expensive - like buying parts for a boat or a plane. Being clever and improvising can pay off - or so I'm told.

I've used one for several years - also have a PROMASTER device that will accomodate two cameras - one on either side of me

I think it's funny how just about anything is better than the factory strap. MT Shooter talked me into the OP/Tech line - good stuff for single or double.

dah! How true! How obvious! All the R&D $ for improving the camera, reducing weight, etc. All the advertising $ spent to get noticed... and it is so simple to spend $3 more in strap cost over classic have SONY on the back leather and the strapping.. one across the chest of course... and advertise as the ERGONOMIC ADVANCED CAMERA... photo magazines would write about it, people would talk about it and would wear the SONY sign across back or front as they walked around...Best few $ spent with great advertising pay back.. OK same goes for Nikon, Canon..

The reason for it not being done is surly explained by Howe Mandel years ago in a comic routine... "Cause thats whatcha do" a comic sketch about not changing or thinking outside the box.

MT is laughing at us every time he gets his commission checks but that OP/Tech is really good for the price.

Exactly what I use - Gives hands free, close at hand, "SAFE", no-pain conviniance of your camera - I even use it when driving in suspected instant photo op areas. my camera is a Lumix FZ18 bridge camer so there is no large long lens. With the quick release tripod mount it make the use of either my walking stick/monopod or tripod mounting much quicker & easier.
Oh - the times I dropped & broke my past FZ cameras was when I was fumbling with the straps picking it up or getting out of the car.

I forgot to mention what sold me on this item - I was shooting in a nature reserve in Mexico when a saw a park ranger with this harnes and a very large pair of binoculars on it - I watched with amazement at the ease of use over the conventional straps - I talked with him and bought one as soon as I got home - I am buying one for a freind who is going to the Amizon reagon of Paru on a missonairy trip soon.

I purchased a "Q-strap" (the chinafied version of the Blackrapid) for an extremely reasonable price on e-bay. I use it all day long with my 70-300 Tamron zoom without any neck stress at all.

I use the Black Rapid strap too. I couldn't take the old neck strap either. The Black Rapids are expensive but my camera lens combo weighs 12.6lbs so I wanted the best.
